Preferred Qualifications Position Summary

This position is a non-exempt staff role within UGA Cooperative Extension and coordinates and distributes time as needed for the satisfactory delivery of the 4-H county program. A high level of independent judgment is required to effectively carry out the essential duties of the job.

Also, the incumbent is expected to manage both Extension program administration and 4-H education delivery by developing techniques and procedures as appropriate. It is under the supervision of the county assigned 4-H Agent and County Extension Coordinator.

Attendance at 4-H events may be an obligation for this position. It will be as assigned by the 4-H Agent, County Coordinator or District Personnel.

Possess or develop adequate computer skills to enhance communication to the public and 4‐H data management Maintain consistent and effective work habits to make efficient use of time and resources. Enthusiasm and desire to work and relate effectively to young people and adults. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with county, district, state staff, local government employees, and clientele. Proficiency in current word processing and data management and accounting software programs (e.g. Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel)

Physical Demands

Some degree of physical activity, including lifting, to conduct programs (e.g., handling animals, supplies, and demonstration materials, audio/visual equipment, etc.) Some standing and/or sitting for various lengths of time. Withstand various seasonal weather conditions for outside activities. Driving.

Duties/Responsibilities

Duties/Responsibilities

Assist 4-H’ers in preparation for 4-H competitive events including project achievement, judging teams, etc.

Transport or arrange for transportation of 4-H’ers to various district and state events and if assigned, provide leadership for youth while attending these events.

Percentage of time 25 Duties/Responsibilities

Conduct in school club meetings and deliver the prepared curriculum that meets state (Georgia Professional Standards) guidelines. Incorporate the results of program evaluations and feedback in planning future programs and techniques used in implementing programs under the direction of a 4-H Agent and District Program Development Director 4-H.

Percentage of time 25 Duties/Responsibilities

Identify, recruit, train and help supervise 4-H volunteers in planning, teaching and evaluating Cooperative Extension 4-H programs. Assist interested volunteers in the successful completion of the 4-H Chaperone Training. Multiple programs may receive leadership from Volunteers such as the Archery Team, Horse Club, BB Team, and Livestock Show Teams.

Extension Program Assistants must manage those programs through the management of the Volunteer with assistance from the 4-H Agent and County Coordinator.

Percentage of time 25 Duties/Responsibilities

Make reports to appropriate clientele, staff members, Board of Education, Board of Commissioners and public officials through mass media (social media, County websites, etc.) personal contacts an/or group meetings. Submit accurate and complete reports in a timely manner in GA Counts, 4-H enrollment, and the District Office.

These responsibilities are under the direction of the 4-H Agent and County Coordinator.

Regularly participate in staff conferences.

Process or develop adequate computer skills to enhance communication with the public and Extension.

Assist staff with day to day operations of Cooperative Extension county office by answering phone, processing mail, distributing publications, greeting visitors, filing documents, etc. (when needed ONLY)

Maintain office inventory of office supplies and materials as needed to support the 4-H program.
