What are the responsibilities and job description for the Mayor's Office Resource Development and Partnerships VISTA position at UG VISTA Program?
**This is NOT a traditional job and is a temporary national service position for 12-months**
Join the Unified Government of Wyandotte County and Kansas City, Kansas AmeriCorps VISTA Program. AmeriCorps engages individuals in service to meet critical community needs while strengthening civic engagement and developing future public service leaders.
This AmeriCorps VISTA position will serve with the Unified Government Mayor's Office, supporting efforts to address poverty and economic insecurity among low-income Wyandotte County residents. The VISTA will help build sustainable fundraising strategies, identify potential funding sources, develop grant proposal resources, and strengthen partnerships that support education, employment, economic mobility, and financial stability.
Rather than directly providing services, the VISTA will develop the tools, resources, and systems that help the Mayor's Office sustain programs and partnerships over time.
This role is ideal for someone interested in grant writing, fundraising, community partnerships, economic development, or local government.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Research private foundations, corporate giving programs, and other eligible nonfederal funding opportunities that align with poverty reduction, workforce development, education, and economic mobility.
- Develop and maintain a funding prospect database documenting eligibility requirements, deadlines, funding priorities, and follow-up activities.
- Create a funding calendar and resource development plan to help staff identify and pursue appropriate funding opportunities.
- Develop reusable grant proposal materials, including organizational information, supporting research, narratives, and budget templates.
- Support the preparation of eligible grant applications, letters of inquiry, and partnership proposals for staff review and submission.
- Identify potential philanthropic, educational, healthcare, employer, and community partners whose resources could support economic mobility initiatives.
- Develop partnership outreach materials and systems for tracking partner discussions, commitments, contributions, and follow-up responsibilities.
- Create tools to document in-kind contributions and identify opportunities for partners to support education, career pathways, training, and other economic mobility resources.
- Develop donor acknowledgment templates, funder reporting calendars, and procedures for communicating program impact.
- Prepare a resource development manual documenting funding opportunities, proposal resources, partnership processes, and recommendations for long-term sustainability.
You describe yourself as:
- Organized, resourceful, and detail-oriented.
- Interested in grant writing, fundraising, community engagement, or economic development.
- Comfortable conducting research, organizing information, and managing multiple projects.
- A strong written communicator who can explain program goals and community needs clearly.
- Motivated to help reduce economic barriers and expand opportunities for low-income residents.
- Interested in building systems that help public programs and community partnerships remain sustainable over time.
