Overview

The Director, Inpatient Oncology Services serves as the clinical and operational leader for inpatient oncology nursing practice, including Cancer Services, Hematologic Malignancy, and Cellular Therapy programs. This role provides strategic and operational oversight to ensure the delivery of exceptional patient care while advancing professional nursing practice and supporting organizational goals.

Working collaboratively with physician leaders, nursing leadership, program administrators, and interdisciplinary teams, the Director is responsible for fostering a culture of clinical excellence, innovation, quality, safety, and operational effectiveness. The position partners closely with the Administrator of the Blood and Marrow Transplant (BMT) and Cellular Therapy Program, faculty and clinical leaders across the cancer service line, and reports to the Executive Administrator, Cancer Services. The Director also maintains accountability to the Vice President of Nursing and Patient Services and supports system-wide initiatives, projects, and strategic priorities.

Responsibilities

  • Provide clinical and operational leadership for inpatient oncology, hematologic malignancy, and cellular therapy nursing services.
  • Oversee daily unit operations, clinical workflows, staffing effectiveness, and patient care delivery.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory, accreditation, and organizational standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Lead nursing practice initiatives that promote quality, patient safety, evidence-based care, and continuous improvement.
  • Establish and monitor staff competency programs, professional development initiatives, and educational activities.
  • Collaborate with physicians, advanced practice providers, nursing leaders, and interdisciplinary teams to optimize patient outcomes and operational performance.
  • Serve as the oncology nursing program liaison and manage partnerships related to clinical trials requiring departmental support and resources.
  • Support the development and implementation of innovative care models, service enhancements, and operational efficiencies aligned with organizational cancer strategies.
  • Monitor and evaluate key performance indicators, quality metrics, patient experience measures, and operational outcomes.
  • Participate in strategic planning efforts and contribute to the growth and advancement of cancer services across the health system.
  • Provide leadership in budget planning, resource management, and financial stewardship.
  • Lead change management initiatives and facilitate successful implementation of new programs, processes, and organizational priorities.
  • Coordinate special projects, activities, and initiatives as assigned by executive leadership.

Qualifications

Education

  • Master's degree in Nursing required.
  • Consideration may be given to candidates currently enrolled in a formal program leading to a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN).

Licensure & Certification

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Florida.
  • National nursing certification required.

Experience

  • Minimum of five (5) years of professional nursing experience in Oncology, Hematologic Malignancy, and/or Cellular Therapy.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of progressive leadership or management experience in Oncology, Hematologic Malignancy, and/or Cellular Therapy.
  • Demonstrated success leading clinical teams, operational initiatives, and quality improvement efforts within complex healthcare environments.
