Job Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Journeyman Tool and Die Maker to join our manufacturing team. In this vital role, you will be responsible for designing, building, maintaining, and repairing precision tools, dies, and fixtures used in the production process. Duties
- Interpret mechanical blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings using CAD software such as SolidWorks and AutoCAD to develop detailed tool and die designs.
- Set up and operate CNC machining centers, including CNC lathe and milling machines, to produce precision components for tooling applications.
- Program CNC equipment using CAM programming techniques to optimize machining processes for plastics injection molding and metal fabrication.
- Perform manual machining tasks utilizing hand tools, grinders, calipers, micrometers, and other precision measurement instruments to achieve tight tolerances.
- Fabricate, assemble, and modify tooling components by welding, electrical discharge machining (EDM), grinding, and other fabrication methods.
- Conduct routine maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of tooling equipment to ensure optimal performance and longevity.
- Interpret mechanical schematics and schematics related to stamping presses, molds, or other manufacturing equipment to facilitate accurate assembly and setup.
- Utilize shop math skills for measurements, calculations, and quality control assessments during machining processes.
- Maintain detailed documentation of work performed, including inspection reports and process logs in compliance with quality standards.
Skills
- Proficiency with CAD software such as SolidWorks, AutoCAD, and experience with CAM programming for CNC machining operations.
- Strong knowledge of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing) principles for precise measurement and quality assurance.
- Hands-on experience with CNC lathe, CNC milling machines, grinders, welding techniques, electrical discharge machining (EDM), and manual machining tools.
- Mechanical blueprint interpretation skills for complex tooling designs involving plastics injection molding or stamping presses.
- Familiarity with shop math fundamentals including measurements with calipers, micrometers, micrometer gauges; understanding of measurement accuracy for quality control purposes.
- Experience working in a toolroom environment with a focus on manufacturing tooling or die making.
- Ability to read electrical schematics and mechanical schematics related to machinery operation or maintenance.
- Knowledge of metal machining processes including fabrication techniques for high precision tooling components.
- Strong problem-solving skills combined with the ability to troubleshoot issues during setup or operation of machinery.
- Excellent organizational skills for maintaining accurate records of work performed in compliance with safety and quality standards.
