Transfer Station Scale Clerk

A "transfer station scale operator" is responsible for weighing incoming vehicles at a waste transfer station using a computerized scale system, calculating the net weight of the waste, collecting associated fees, and ensuring compliance with waste disposal regulations by checking loads for unacceptable materials, all while maintaining accurate records and performing basic maintenance on the scale and surrounding area. 

Key responsibilities may include:

• Weighing vehicles:

  Operating the electronic truck scale to accurately weigh incoming waste trucks. 

• Data entry:

  Recording vehicle information (license plate, weight, type of waste) into a computer system. 

• Fee collection:

  Calculating and collecting tipping fees from truck drivers based on the weight of their loads. 

• Load inspection:

  Visually checking truck loads for prohibited materials like hazardous waste or liquids, and notifying appropriate personnel if issues are found. 

• Compliance checks:

  Ensuring that waste disposal regulations are followed by drivers 

• Customer service:

  Interacting with truck drivers, providing information about the weighing process, and addressing any concerns. 

• Basic maintenance:

  Performing routine cleaning and maintenance tasks on the scale and scale house 

• Reporting:

  Generating reports on daily waste volume and revenue 

• Basic math skills: Ability to accurately calculate weights and fees 
• Computer proficiency: Familiarity with computer systems for data entry and reporting 
• Attention to detail: Ability to carefully monitor the weighing process and identify discrepancies 
• Communication skills: Clear communication with truck drivers regarding weighing procedures and compliance issues 
• Physical ability: Able to work outdoors in various weather conditions and may need to climb ladders for maintenance checks
