Brief Description of Duties

Under the supervision of the Director of Academic Excellence and Retention their designee, this position will oversee, plan, organize, coordinate, and review the services, activities, and operations of the First-Year Experience (FYE) program. The Program Coordinator will be responsible for the development and implementation of various programs and activities designed to promote first-year and transfer students' successful acclamation and integration into the University and enhance their academic, social, and personal development. The Program Coordinator will be responsible for developing and coordinating all components of the First-Year Experience to assist in improving the retention and persistence rates of each group. The Program Coordinator will work in concert with his/her counterparts on other campuses regarding all student experience programming.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Coordinate, implement, and evaluate of all components of the First-Year Experience Program including, but not limited to, Registration Day, New Student Orientation, New Student Welcome Week.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of goals, objectives, policies, and priorities for the FYE program.
  • Collaborates with faculty, staff, academic coaches/advisors in creating program, support activities and expanding student opportunities.
  • Provide supervision for the Peer Advisor program.
  • Develop yearly calendar of events, workshops, and other schedules related to activities and services; review, update, and inform others of essential timelines; coordinate assigned activities; ensure the timely completion of work in accordance with established policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Assists with developing, coordinating, and implementing other programs, special projects, activities, and events assigned to the department.
  • Develops program strategies, reviews, and evaluates informal co-curricular actives/programs for quality performance.
  • Monitor, maintain, and participate in the administration of assigned budget; make recommendations regarding allocation of resources and expenditure of funds.
  • Researches and provides continuous up-to-date information on best practices for new and incoming students.
  • Confers with management and conducts surveys to identify training needs based on projected production processes, changes, and other factors.
  • Serves and provide support in a leadership/managerial capacity in the Student Succes Center as needed.
  • Identifies and attends professional development opportunities.
  • Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.

Minimum Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
  • Experience developing and supporting program activities.
  • Knowledge of methods used to collect, analyze, and assemble pertinent facts; evaluate, arrange, and present responses; and to review written reports and prepare summaries to facilitate program operations.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with individuals of diverse cultural backgrounds
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Demonstrable evidence of the ability to work effectively and collaboratively with faculty, staff, administrators, and a diverse student population.
  • Proficient in computer software applications, including Microsoft Office, and other related software packages.

Employment Benefits: Depending upon length of appointment, selectee may or may not be eligible for full benefits such as health and life insurance, annual (vacation) and sick leave and will be covered under the University of the District of Columbia's retirement plan (TIAA-CREF).
