Job Summary

JOB DESCRIPTION

Involves patient care services for a range of mental health disorders, often severe including major depressive disorders, paranoia, schizophrenia, or bipolar disorder. Settings may be inpatient, outpatient or clinical research studies. Patient care may be provided by a combination of licensed clinicians, as well as counselors and crisis intervention specialists. Patients typically require routine assistance, treatment or a specialized and controlled environment. Primary emphasis on treatment and attempt where possible to help patients control their own lives in the outside world, with the use of a combination of psychiatric drugs and psychotherapy.

Responsibilities

Under direction of supervisor delivers educational / behavioral interventions to patients / participants according to protocol. In partnership with psychologists from the UCSF Eating Disorder Program, deliver protocolized research psychedelic-assisted therapy for adolescent and young adult research participants with eating disorders, including psychotherapy for patients receiving hallucinogenic medications such as psilocybin or ketamine. Related responsibilities will include:

  • Timely documentation of study visits
  • Identification and documentation of adverse events
  • Safety assessments per study protocol
  • Providing psychoeducation to research participants and family members within the bounds of the research protocol

Participate in clinical consultation and training with other mental health clinicians

Work Environment

  • Keeps working areas neat, orderly and clutter-free, including the hallways.Adheres to cleaning processes and puts things back where they belong. Removes and reports broken equipment and furniture.
  • Picks up and disposes of any litter found throughout entire facility.
  • Posts flyers and posters in designated areas only; does not post on walls, doors or windows.
  • Knows where the Environment of Care Manual is kept in department; corrects or reports unsafe conditions to the appropriate departments.
  • Protects the physical environment and equipment from damage and theft.

MEDICATION ACCESS AND STORAGE

The “Medication and Auxiliary Staff Competency” must be successfully completed for Level I, Level II or Level III staff PRIOR to performing duties requiring medication access (including access, transport, and/or stocking activities OR access to medication storage areas for cleaning).

Qualifications

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in related area and 1 related work experience; and/or equivalent experience
  • Basic skills in providing behavioral / educational interventions.
  • Knowledge of applicable laws and ethical standards associated with profession.
  • Basic knowledge of diagnostic and therapeutic approaches.
  • Effective verbal and written communication. Demonstrated active listening and persuasion skills.
  • Skills in collaborating with interdisciplinary team.
  • Knowledge of business software and electronic / medical records systems.
