Job Description
The Public Safety Dispatcher is responsible for the general operation of the UCSF Communication Center, which consists of the following: process telephone calls for 911 police, fire medical and non-emergency services; input information into a Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) System; input data into the various Law Enforcement Telecommunications Systems and interpret the printout information once it is obtained; operate a multi-channel radio system under emergency as well as non- emergency circumstances, adhering to FCC rules and regulations in the course of its operation and ability to audibly monitor radio traffic; operate a hand-held two-way radio for communications; maintain various logs; process various alarms; and perform other duties as assigned. The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- High School diploma or GED equivalent
- Valid California Driver’s License
- Successful completion of California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Public Safety Dispatcher Basic Course required within one year of appointment.
- Passing Score on POST Entry-level Dispatcher Selection Test Battery, prior to academy
- Knowledge of Police Dispatching Procedures Including the Operation of state-of-the-art Telephone and Radio Systems within 1 year of appointment
- Must be able to work shifts on rotational basis (days, swings and midnights); must be able to work on-call assignments and/or overtime as required
- Effective written and verbal communications

- Knowledge of Information Technology, Personal Computers and related Software Applications Knowledge of Police Dispatching Procedures Including the Operation of state-of-the-art Telephone and Radio Systems
- Knowledge of Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) and Records Systems Knowledge of Information Technology, Personal Computers and related Software Applications
- California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Public Safety Dispatcher Basic Course Certificate required within one year of appointment.
- Valid California Driver’s License
