* Apply today for our rewarding Recreation Therapist opportunity, providing support to individuals with developmental and/or intellectual disabilities.  This position is a part-time 13.5 hour per week opportunity with a flex schedule. *

 

General Purpose of the Job Responsible to structure, incorporate and monitor meaningful individualized group activities for people with developmental disabilities.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

 

  • Develops and conducts a program of meaningful activities including activities, which are intellectually stimulating, augment health maintenance encourages participation of the program participants in the community and involve volunteers
  • Plans, evaluates, and structures a recreation program which will be incorporated into each individuals daily activity schedule including treatment goals and objectives that will be developed, monitored and updated as needed; A monthly recreation calendar of activities for use by the residence to provide information and outings for program participants and staff.
  • Ensures equipment and supplies for programming and leisure-time activities are available and on-site.
  • Working in conjunction with the Residential Manager to ensure the following comply:
  • Responsible for keeping all information current and representative of individual’s present functioning and development level including annual evaluation of individual’s strengths and needs; annual evaluation of the individual’s level of functioning in reference to recreational skills; annual assessments; interim reviews; monthly summaries; monitoring data sheets in reference to recreation goals and objectives. 
  • Ensures all goals and records must meet with State and Federal regulations.
  • Plans, research, and develops community outings, i.e., sports activities, etc.
  • Coordinates outings (transportation) with other residences.
  • In conjunction with other disciplines, evaluates and helps achieve treatment goals and implements individual recreation programs if needed.
  • Participates in the decision-making process in reference to the overall programming and well-being of residents.
  • Responsible for attending scheduled quarterly, annual and team meetings.
  • Supervises, instructs and demonstrates programs and activities to the staff that will implement the   program, and provides follow-up to monitor staff and programs.
  •  Coordinates a schedule of planned activities and spends a given amount of time giving hands-on training  with  the program participants and staff.
  •  Conducts on-site in-service training for the staff.
  • Attends community activities with staff/participants (as needed)
Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university and one to six months related experience. Valid NYS Driver license and at least 1-year licensed driving experience required.
