General Purpose of the Job Applies preparatory materials, paints, and stains to surfaces of walls, ceilings, equipment, and furniture. Prepares and applies appropriate materials to a varied surfaces including buildings, equipment and other surfaces.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Applies protective and decorative coats of paint, varnish, lacquer, and/or other related materials to interior and exterior surfaces of buildings, furniture, equipment, and other structures.
- Washes, scrapes, sands, torches, and/or smoothes interior and exterior surfaces prior to painting, varnishing, lacquering or applying other related materials.
- Repair surfaces to be painted.
- Operates, cleans and maintains all painting equipment, including brush, roll, sprayers, and sprayers.
- Cleans paint mixing area and work area.
- Operates compressors, striping machines, sandblasters, spray equipment, and other small power equipment.
- Installs, repairs, and maintains drywall, wall texturing, and ceiling acoustic texturing.
Erects various types of scaffolding, ladders, and rigging to reach difficult areas in a manner consistent with safety codes. - May move furniture and equipment as necessary.
- Ensures compliance with hazardous materials guidelines according to Materials Safety Data Sheets.
- Maintains existing paint surfaces through matching and tinting of appropriate paint products.
- Safe handling and the appropriate disposal of paints, stains, preparatory materials and other hazardous materials.
- Requisitions materials and supplies.
- May refinish wood surfaces.

Qualifications:
Education and/or Experience
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and one to three months related experience and/or training
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
Valid current New York State Driver License with an acceptable driving record.
Other Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of the tools, equipment, materials, and application techniques common to the painting trade.
Knowledge and skill in hazardous materials handling, application, and disposal.
Skill in the preparation and application of paints, stains, and surface preparation materials to a wide variety of surfaces.
