What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director of the UCLA PreK-16 Innovation, Philanthropy, and Education Policy Program position at UCLA?
In collaboration with the Wasserman Dean of the UCLA School of Education and Information Studies, the Associate Dean of Public Engagement, Chief of Staff, and the Executive Director of External Relations and the External Relations team, the Director of the new UCLA PreK-16 Innovation, Philanthropy, and Education Policy Program will lead efforts to create, manage, and implement important community engagement activities for the School including convenings, communications, and outreach. The position will work closely with the Wasserman Dean, the Associate Dean of Public Engagement, Chief of Staff, the Chair of Education, the Chair of Information Studies, the faculty, and various research centers to learn about the innovative work being done at the School to ensure equitable access to knowledge. The Director will create opportunities to share UCLA's Education & information Studies faculty knowledge and to integrate the work of external experts, philanthropists, and policy leaders toward key topics and issues. The Director will develop an annual strategic plan for the Program and growing its visibility and impact. This position will create and grow a network of people from all sectors who are influencers and key leaders in innovation, planning small conversations toward change as well as major convenings. This position will also work with the Associate Dean of Public Engagement to develop opportunities to expand the School's partnerships with philanthropic organizations, as prioritized by the Wasserman Dean.
The Director will report to the Associate Dean of Public Engagement for the UCLA School of Education and Information Studies. This Director position will act as the lead strategist for leading and building new and innovative opportunities to serve as a resource that links philanthropists, educators, policymakers and researchers toward the common goal of improving educational opportunities for all learners. This position will also be charged with ensuring that the School's research and extensive work to develop innovative new practices in K-20 education are actively shared with policy leaders, philanthropists, and relevant community sectors. UCLA's School of Education and Information Studies, as one of the top three education programs in the nation and as the top public Education program in the nation, has an inherent responsibility to ensure that relevant knowledge resources, research findings, and development of innovative K-20 practices are made available to key community leaders and to leaders in the public policy and philanthropic sectors, as part of our mission to inform their work. The Director will also lead the Senior Fellows in Educational Policy program. S/he will be the point person for all activities related to the program.
The successful candidate should be an energetic and proactive person with extensive professional experience around both community engagement and education policy. The candidate should have experience in community outreach and should be able to work collaboratively with the Associate Dean of Public Engagement to develop briefings and to plan information sessions and convenings for policy leaders, community sectors, and philanthropic organizations. They should be familiar with the challenges facing our K-20 systems, the work of philanthropic organizations to impact education outcomes, and the work of policy leaders ? and able to link that with the innovative work that UCLA Ed&IS faculty and researchers are developing to increase learning equity.
