Nurse Practitioner Essential Job Functions
The Nurse Practitioner is an Advance Practice Nurse responsible for comprehensive direct patient care management. The NP manages a caseload of patients and exercises autonomous decision making in the assessment, diagnosis, and initiation of delegated medical treatments. The scope of practice also includes family support, teaching, staff education, consultation, and research. The NP utilizes advanced practice skills obtained through the completion of a formal nurse practitioner program at an accredited college of nursing. These skills include advanced levels of assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation of care, as well as performing some invasive procedures.
Nurse Practitioner Required Qualifications
The Physician Assistant is qualified by academic and clinical education to provide healthcare and patient services that may include educational, research, clinical nursing specialist support and administrative activities under the direction and supervision of the Director/leadership of the Center for the Section Chief of General Surgery. The PA has acquired the knowledge, skills and judgment necessary to assist the physician / surgeon through organized instruction and supervised practice. This licensed health professional will take patient history, conduct examinations, diagnose illnesses, order and interpret laboratory tests and assist during complicated operations. The PA in conjunction with the team will independently coordinate the CME Conferences and schedule surgical procedures in the GOR area.

- Licensure: Pediatric Nurse Practitioner (PNP), Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP), or AGANCP with PNP certification required
- Education: Graduate of a formal nurse practitioner program
- Surgery experience preferred (RN or APN)

- Licensure: Certification in ACLS and by the National Commission on the Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) and current and/or eligibility for: State of Illinois licensure/registration required
