What are the responsibilities and job description for the Postdoctoral Appointee - MSD Magnetic Heterostructures Using Lorentz Transmission Electron Microscopy position at UChicago Argonne, LLC?
The Nanoscale Magnetic and Electronic Heterostructure Group of the Materials Science Division (MSD) invites applications for a Postdoctoral position focused on Lorentz Transmission Electron Microscopy (LTEM) studies of magnetic heterostructures. We are interested in using real space imaging techniques to understand the evolution of energy landscapes that lead to emergent domain behavior in magnetic thin films, patterned structures, and complex interfaces. In this advertised role, you will be conducting real-space imaging of magnetic heterostructures using LTEM to understand spin textures and their relationship to topology in a variety of materials exhibiting out-of-plane component of magnetization. Here the target materials are those with interfacial DMI (e.g.: Co/Pt multilayers) and chiral magnets (e.g.: FGT and FeGe). The project will involve imaging the nanomagnetic thin films while simultaneously performing in-situ field and temperature driven experiments. Additional experiments may require in-situ electrical transport measurements, and complementary characterization such as the use of PPMS and MPMS. The postdoctoral candidate is expected to fabricate suitable samples using FIB and EBL techniques, and carry out any required data analysis. Position Requirements • Experience working with Lorentz Transmission Electron Microscopy. • Strong background in Materials Science or Physics. • Min. Education: Ph.D. (< 5 yrs. since Ph.D.) • Familiarity with image processing and simulation software. • (Preferred) Experience with nanofabrication, transport measurements, thin film deposition, in-situ TEM transport measurements. Job Family Postdoctoral Job Profile Postdoctoral Appointee Worker Type Long-Term (Fixed Term) Time Type Full time The expected hiring range for this position is $70,758.00-$117,925.00. Please note that the pay range information is a general guideline only. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as, but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, business considerations, internal equity, and external market pay for comparable jobs.
