JOB SUMMARY  

General Labor is responsible for maintenance/cleaning of the interior and exterior of the vessel. Must comply with all shipyard safety and environmental policies and procedures. Project work to include steel prep, painting, installation, demo, etc. This position will report to the Project Manager. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES  

Ship Maintenance: 

  • Sweeps decks, washes windows, and empties trash receptacles. 
  • Cleans the public restrooms and general areas such as bulkheads, lockers, cabins, etc. 
  • Preps, primes and paints the vessel as assigned, and to the standard set forth by the Project Manager 
  • Assists Project Manager and Chief Engineer as directed. 
  • May be assigned various special projects as per the work list. 
  • Operate a variety of equipment including pneumatic tools, electric tools, and hand tools. 

Boat Operations: 

  • Handles lines during docking and undocking procedures. 

Safety & Security: 

  • Participates in on board safety training, meetings and drills, as directed by the Project Manager or Captain. 
  • Participates in shore side training as required by the company or shipyard facility.  
  • Conducts security patrols including inspection of all lower deck, mechanical, and crew spaces. 
  • Acts as a Fire watch for welding work being completed (once trained). 
  • Familiar with all duties under the company Safety Management System including Emergency Response Activities. 
  • Report any suspicious activity including unauthorized persons and theft of tools or material. 

Additional Duties: 

  • Hauls ship's trash, laundry, and stores as needed. 
  • Pulls, cleans and replaces the galley mats, cleans the galley deck and washes any used galley rags. 
  • Properly wear and maintain PPE. 

 QUALIFICATIONS

  • Mechanical aptitude and interest. 
  • Maritime/boating experience. 
  • Good customer service skills; professional demeanor, ability to use necessary levels of tact and courtesy. 
  • Detail oriented and thorough; able to follow through on assigned tasks. 
  • Able to work independently using initiative and creativity to complete assigned tasks. 
  • Strong time management skills; able to handle multiple tasks, set priorities, and meet deadlines. 
  • Work well under pressure. 
  • Ability to get along well with co-workers and support a team environment. 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS / WORK ENVIRONMENT 

  • Living Conditions Onboard- If shipyard crew are not based locally, room and board can be arranged onboard the vessel. Crew live in close quarters and should expect a roommate. 
  • Length of Work Shift- Physically able to work 8 hours per day, 5 days a week. 
  • Mobility- Frequent bending, reaching, twisting, kneeling, crawling, and pushing/pulling.  Must ascend and descend stairs and ladders, sometimes while carrying tools or objects. Ability to stand or sit for long periods of time. 
  • Handling/Strength- Ability to handle, lift, and lower objects totaling 50 pounds between the ground/deck level to a height of about 4 to 6 feet, and able to repeat these movements.  Able to carry these objects up to 100 feet continuously for 20 minutes. 
  • Environmental Conditions- ability to work in all weather conditions, around loud noise, in small spaces, and fit through a 28-inch wide hatch. 

 

BASE PAY

  • $21.30 - $24.00 / hour depending on experience
