Human Resources Job Description - Therapist (Internship)
Position Title: Therapist Internship
Reports to: Licensed Professional
Position Objective and Summary:
Under the supervision of a Licensed Professional, the Therapy Intern provides individual, couple, family and group psychotherapy services to clients in a community based setting.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- Performing mental health assessments of referred clients: interviewing clients and significant individuals and collateral contacts.
- Assessing clients’ needs and developing appropriate goals for services.
- Providing individual, couple, family and group psychotherapy.
- Participating in supervision, team meetings and in-service training sessions.
- Collaboration with other social service agencies, schools, hospitals, courts, probation, corrections and public mental health organizations to make referrals or obtain case-related information.
- Collaboration with caseworkers assigned to client or client’s family to discuss progress of client and obtain case related information.
- Maintaining supportive documentation of case file, including written reports, case notes and other paperwork related to the case within established timeframes.
- Learning new knowledge through participation in agency sponsored training and supervision.
- Possibility of providing in-home counseling services.
Education/Job Experience/Certifications:
- Enrollment in a 2nd year Master program.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, Bi-lingual, English/Spanish preferred.
- Ability to work independently.
- Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary setting.
- Demonstrates sensitivity to special populations and ability to interface with the community.
- Culturally competent, experience with LGBTQ population.
