Position Title: Clinical Supervisor

Department: Behavioral Health Services (BHS)

Reports to: Associate Vice President of BHS

Direct reports: Team of Therapist

 

Position Objective and Summary:

Under the direction of the Director of Clinical and Counseling Services, the Clinical Licensed Supervisor supervises and administers a unit of assigned Psychotherapists providing a wide range of therapeutic services to clients in a community-based outpatient counseling setting and participates in the development and administration of programs as a member of the management team.  The Clinical Licensed Supervisor also provides direct individual, family, and group psychotherapy services. 

 

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

Monitoring Service Delivery

  • Supervises and administers daily activities performed by a unit of assigned psychotherapists to insure clients receive safe and clinically appropriate services.
  • Administratively monitors service provided by designated subcontractors.
  • Ensures timely and accurate completion of forms, case recording and reports provided by the staff; reviews and provides reports as required.
  • Reviews, modifies and approves all written assessments, ITPs and reports for clients assigned to team to ensure appropriateness, accuracy and timeliness.
  • Provides regular individual clinical supervision to psychotherapists to ensure client needs are being met in accordance with best practice stands, and DCFS and UCAN policy.
  • Monitors completion and appropriate content of case notes on a regular basis.
  • Ensures that all data entry is complete, accurate and updated in Profile as required by program standards.

 

 Identifying and Addressing Client Needs

  • Effectively applies clinical knowledge to evaluate client situations and needs.
  • Develops clear and specific ITP goals for each client based upon his/her individual needs.
  • Identifies at-risk clients and behaviors before serious acting-out occurs.
  • Successfully engages and develops rapport with a wide range of clients.
  • Structures therapy sessions in accordance with ITP goals.
  • Creates a therapeutic environment by providing adequate, varied, culturally competent, and developmentally appropriate activities/materials.
  • Maintains consistency and safety throughout the session.
  • Guides therapists to make ITPs and decisions based on clinically appropriate, best practice, and ethical considerations.
  • Provides case consultation and direction on intervention options and problem resolution.
  • Uses population specific knowledge and expertise in developing ITPs and therapeutic interventions.
  •  Considers any cultural factors that may be impacting the client or the appropriateness of services, and proficiently addresses them to provide needed services.

 

Developing and Leading Employees

  • Orients and trains new employees according to program and department guidelines to ensure all new employees are ready and able to perform as necessary.
  • Makes work assignments and provides appropriate level of direction.
  • Sets and evaluates clear and collaborative individual performance goals for employees.
  • Provides regular individual supervision and performance feedback to employees.
  • Coaches and mentors employee development around professional interests and career goals.
  • Recognizes and rewards employee performance, initiative and decision-making. 
  • Completes meaningful Performance Reviews for all employees and submits as required.

 

Program Administration and Planning

  • Coordinates departmental programs as assigned, including internship/practicum process.
  • Participates in department planning; develops and recommends unit policy and procedure changes and operational plans; implements unit projects or plans.
  • Develops and maintains educational material for the program and acts as a consultant or seminar leader in areas of specialized knowledge and skills in clinical theory and practice.
  • Plans for future changes and develops programs to meet those needs.
  • Participates in management team meetings, where plans are developed to ensure safe and clinically appropriate therapeutic services.
  • Explains UCAN procedures to employees in order to assist them in the utilizing all available resources for clients.
  • Accurately completes all reports and documentation required by contracting and regulatory bodies.
  • Ensures all billing documentation is completed and submitted as required.
  • Ensures that Crisis Management protocols for the department are followed.
  • Manages team expenses by following Finance Dept. procedures in approving petty cash, payments, check requests, mileage and expense reimbursements and other unit expenses.
  • Manages employee job performance by following HR procedures and documentation requirements for: hiring; job scheduling and assignment; disciplinary actions; recommendations for salaries, raises, promotions, demotions and terminations.

 

Quality and Accountability

  • Uses UCAN AAA processes to ensure quality and accountability in the work done by team.
  • Ensures contract and/or funder performance requirements are met and reports results as necessary.
  • Follows all applicable regulatory standards, including but not limited to: COA standards, IDCFS licensing regulations, IDCFS policy and procedure, CPS/ISBE policy and procedure, and Medicaid procedures.

 

Networking and Team Building

  • Acts as a liaison.
  • Builds strong interpersonal relationships with team and among the team members.
  • Facilitates regular and productive team meetings and encourages team member participation.
  • Coordinates services with multiple UCAN programs to ensure appropriate services for clients and teamwork between programs.

 

Professionalism and Work Conduct

  • Behaves with integrity, demonstrates high ethical standards, and displays a positive image of UCAN.
  • Acts in a professional manner at all times and maintains appropriate boundaries with clients and staff.
  • Reports to work, meetings, training, and job related activities prepared and as scheduled.
  • Understands and supports UCAN’s standard of cultural proficiency and strives to meet it.
  • Responds to clients and their families, UCAN staff, DCFS, service providers and other stakeholders in a timely manner and ensures follow up to adequately address their need.
  • Performs other related tasks as required or assigned.

 

Education/Job Experience/Certification:

  • MSW or MS/MA in a clinical Human Service field (psychology, counseling).
  • Three (3) years supervisory experience.
  • LCPC, LMFT, or LCSW required.
  • Five to seven years experience in a clinical setting.

 

Special Knowledge and Qualifications:

  • Has an understanding of trauma-informed practice.
  • Has an understanding of Positive Youth Development.
  • Demonstrated clinical skills and clinical supervision skills.
  • Is open and respectful of cultural and socioeconomic characteristics of clients and is willing and competent to work with a diverse client population.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of the child welfare system.
  • Ability to work both independently and a part of a high functioning team.
  • Experience and ability to use computers for data entry, communication and report writing.
  • Car and valid Illinois driver’s license and insurance required.

 

Work Environment: This position requires use of car for local travel to multiple UCAN sites and to provide services to clients in their homes and in their community. This position may require the transportation of clients and/or their children.

 

Work Conditions: This position may require work on weekends and evenings.
