Job Summary

The purpose of this position is to provide supervision to pharmacists, pharmacy technicians and other support staff, oversee daily pharmacy operations and serve as the pharmacist-in-charge. #CA-DS

  • Registered Pharmacist in the State of California
  • Immunization Certification
  • Doctor of Pharmacy degree (Pharm D), or equivalent training
  • Experience supervising technicians and other pharmacy support staff
  • Five (5) years of experience in outpatient pharmacy operations, or two (2) years of experience supervising an outpatient pharmacy
  • Extensive knowledge of current State and federal regulations related to the practice of pharmacy
  • Working knowledge of third-party insurance billing requirements, including Medicaid and Medicare
  • Computer skills that facilitate medication order entry and other basic clinical software programs
  • Skills to make independent decisions and handle stressful situations
  • Comprehensive knowledge of outpatient pharmacy operations

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced management or leadership training [e.g., Master of Business Administration (MBA), Master of Health Administration (MHA), or Prior Learning Assessment (PLA)], or equivalent
  • Outpatient pharmacy experience at an academic medical center
  • Knowledge of project management tools and techniques
  • Knowledge of collective bargaining and affirmative action principles

Key Responsibilities

  • 50% - Provides Supervision of Outpatient Pharmacy
  • 40% - Drug Distribution
  • 10% - Clinical and Educational Activities

Department Overview

The Department of Pharmacy is a dynamic, integral, and critical part of patient care provided by UC Davis Health. As a department of greater than 600 professional, technical, and administrative support personnel, we focus on providing patient-centered medication management that optimizes outcomes through practice, education, research, and leadership through the continuum of care. We also have the largest pharmacy residency program in the country with 46 total residents in 13 different programs.

The Department of Pharmacy offers comprehensive pharmaceutical services (unit dose, IV admixtures, clinical services, infusion pumps, and teaching) throughout the health system complex 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The pharmacy services encompass inpatient pharmacy services as well as an expansive footprint in the ambulatory care space where we have clinical pharmacists embedded within our clinics and specialty care locations. Our operational teams support the health system enterprise with three inpatient pharmacies, five outpatient pharmacies, two infusion pharmacies, a home infusion service line, and the full complement of pharmacy purchasing, stores, and distribution.

Work Environment
