Job Summary

The purpose of this position is to meet the department’s responsibility of providing customer service and support of our patrons, selling permits, explaining policies and procedures, collecting payments, and safeguarding University property. The position is the face of our department championing sustainable commute options.

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position

  • Required to hold a valid California driver's license, have a driving record that is in accordance with local policies/procedures, and/or enroll in the California Employer Pull Notice Program
  • Several years experience in simple bookkeeping practices relating to revenue collection and report reconciliation.
  • Several years experience with cash handling.
  • Several years experience working with IBM or compatible personal computers and Point of Sale systems.
  • Intermediate knowledge of Windows-based software packages and their use in data entry and data base maintenance.
  • Ability to read, Interpretive skills to read, apply and utilize appropriately.
  • Reading skills to understand and apply policies and procedures and other communication, printed and handwritten in English
  • Writing skills to legibly and clearly convey information in English.
  • Skills in oral communication sufficient to convey clear and concise information to the public and staff and to respond to questions without confusion or rambling.
  • Ability to accept and follow written and oral instructions from a variety of individuals and the capacity for long term memory of such instructions.
  • Ability to work with a diverse staff of patients, staff, faculty, and the public. Patience to communicate with individuals who have limited English speaking skills.
  • Ability to demonstrate patience, tact, courtesy, and empathy with others (e.g., grieving, angry, anxious, or upset patients, family and visitors, etc.)Ability to listen attentively to problems or complaints and to refer problems to the appropriate source.
  • Ability to perform mathematical calculations for computing fees and full cashiering responsibilities.
  • Ability to use personal computers and generate reports.
  • Ability to accurately count cash and coins without variance.
  • Ability to process vehicles out of attended lots with speed and accuracy.
  • General ability and skills in machine operations, mechanical devices, electrical equipment.
  • Troubleshooting skills to repair or communicate with individuals assigned to service parking control equipment.
  • Writing skills sufficient to compose a variety of types of correspondence related to citation appeals in a clear, concise and courteous manner, using proper grammar, spelling and punctuation.
  • Skill in interacting effectively with persons of various social, cultural, economic and educational backgrounds in a frequently hostile environment, including actively listening to customer concerns and responding in an informed, professional and courteous manner.
  • Typing skills sufficient to prepare business correspondence and office memorandum with speed and accuracy on a computer.Ability to follow instructions accurately.
  • Ability to prioritize workload, remain organized and perform tasks in a timely manner, with frequent interruptions.
  • Ability to develop and communicate suggestions related to departmental improvement.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive materials.
  • Ability to read and write with comprehension.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience providing customer support in Parking, Transportation and Fleet environments
  • Experience with Sustainable Transportation and Commuting options
  • Experience with fueling (gas/electric/alternative) oversight
  • Knowledge of PARCS Systems: AIMS, Skidata, ParkMobile
  • Knowledge of Fleet Management Systems
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish

Department Overview

The Parking, Transportation and Fleet Services Department provides solutions for patrons of UC Davis Health. The department manages parking facilities and permitting, transportation (on and off campus) and the acquisition, maintenance, and usage of Fleet vehicles. The department provides commute options and choices to promote sustainable transportation and to reduce single occupant vehicles. Enforcement of all parking areas is performed by uniformed staff in accordance with California Vehicle Code 21113a; citations issued by agreement with the Sacramento Municipal Court.

Work Environment

UC Davis is a smoke and tobacco free campus effective January 1, 2014.
