Role Description:
The UCBA AmeriCorps VISTA will be responsible for helping to build capacity in the area of service-learning, specifically related to the following four discrete areas: Expansion of curricular-based service-learning opportunities for students at the college, creating systems to expand the outreach and service capabilities of the food pantry, developing programming to support REACH (Resources, Education, and Advocacy for College Hopefuls) students at the college, and working with community partners, other educational institutions, and internal stakeholders to develop alternative educational pathways for students who are not ready for college-level work
This work will include developing relationships with community partners to offer expanded service-learning opportunities (class-based, individual experiences, and others) to students at the college. The VISTA will work to create systems for students who are not in a traditional service-learning course to have access to micro service-learning experiences. In the area of the food pantry, the VISTA will help develop systems to increase volunteer participation and service-learning opportunities with the food pantry. This may include leveraging technology to improve the productivity and efficiency of these processes.
Responsibilities:
- Enhance curricular service-learning (SL) opportunities for students by developing/strengthening relationships with community partners and non-profits. Creating a database of community partners with identified needs for SL. Connecting instructors with partners for SL activities. Help to develop micro-SL opportunities for the Honors Program and other students for whom other SL courses or opportunities are not an option. Help develop a tool to assess qualitative and quantitative measures of the effectiveness of SL activities at the college.
- Strengthen and expand the UCBA Bearcat Food Pantry by increasing campus and community engagement to grow volunteer participation, funding support, and awareness of student food insecurity. Develop data-informed assessment strategies to evaluate program impact and analyze connections between food access and student retention.
- Provide strategic and administrative support to expand UCBA Reach, a program serving students with lived experience in foster or kinship care who are pursuing higher education. Coordinate recruitment and participant engagement efforts, support event planning and program communications, cultivate partnerships to advance funding and leadership opportunities, and manage state reporting related to student outcomes and program impact.
- Work with campus partners to identify students who may require an alternative educational pathway. Identify external partners and resources to connect with students who are seeking an alternative educational pathway.
- Attend orientation, weekly meetings, days of service, and trainings/retreats coordinated by Campus Compact
- Complete data collection and reporting activities required by Campus Compact and AmeriCorps
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree – any field
- Effective oral and written communication skills
- Demonstrated organizational skills
- Proficient in Microsoft office suite
- Driver’s license and personal vehicle
- US Citizen, national, DACA status, or legal permanent resident
- Must be able to complete a federal background check
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with non-profits, education, social services, or service-learning.
- 1-3 years relevant work experience.
- Experience leading teams or working as a supervisor.
- Demonstrated experience working effectively on cross-functional teams.
