Job Summary:
The CNC Programmer – Vertical Milling & Routing is responsible for developing, optimizing, and supporting 3-axis and 5-axis CNC programs for milling and routing operations. This role works closely with engineering and production teams to translate customer-supplied and in-house CAD models into efficient, high-quality CNC programs. The position requires strong troubleshooting skills, hands-on shop floor support, and a deep understanding of tooling, GD&T, and machining processes. The CNC Programmer will maintain tooling databases, recommend process improvements, and ensure programs meet production, quality, and throughput objectives in both office and manufacturing environments.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- · Develop 3-axis and 5-axis CNC programs for milling and routing operations
- Work from customer provided and in-house developed CAD models
- · Maintain master tool database, set upper/lower limits, & periodically inspect tools
- · Possess strong understanding of standard dimensioning and GD&T
- · Work with both engineering and production to optimize and troubleshoot programs
- · Make tooling recommendations to improve production throughput and quality
- · Have a strong presence on the shop floor and be able to assist operators as needed
Job Qualifications and Skills:
- Required Experience Level:
- 3 years
- Must be able to troubleshoot machine code at the computer and on the floor in text format
- Preferred Experience Level:
- 5 years
- Experience with composites, fiberglass, and / or other marine materials
- Experience with Thermwood routers and SuperControllers
- Preferred Education:
- Technical degree from accredited machining program / school
- MasterCAM University Certification (Core & Multiaxis) can substitute for degree
- Required Skills and Proficiencies
- MasterCAM
- CNC Milling (3 & 5 axis)
- CNC Routing (3 & 5 axis)
- MS Office Suite
- Preferred Skills and Proficiencies:
- AutoCAD
- Rhino
- Solidworks
Physical Demand and Conditions:
· Primary work environment is a combination of climate-controlled office and non-climate-controlled production floor environments.
· Candidates must be comfortable working in ambient weather conditions and exposure while moving between buildings on-site.
