Position Overview

Pay range: $17.10 - $27.80 / hour

Shifts: full-time AM

Schedules: Between 7:00a.m. - 5:00p.m.

Job Highlights

Ophthalmic technicians at UAB Callahan Eye Clinics function as vision assistants, playing a key role in providing high quality vision care. Primary responsibilities include assisting with eye exams, performing technical workups, documenting medical history, preparing and/or administering medications, and providing assistance during minor procedures. The ideal candidate for this entry-level clinic assistant role has a keen attention to detail, strong interpersonal skills, and a commitment to patient safety and comfort. UAB Callahan Eye Clinics offer ongoing training and development opportunities for career growth through a structured path, which includes support to assist you in obtaining relevant certifications to advance your career. The shift for this full-time opportunity is Monday through Friday with a schedule that varies per clinic (examples include 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.).

Job Description

The Ophthalmic Technician will assist eye care professionals in providing high-quality patient care by performing various tasks related to eye examinations and procedures. This role requires a keen attention to detail, strong interpersonal skills, and a commitment to patient safety and comfort.

Qualifications

High School diploma or GED. Must be able to travel between hospital and satellite clinics as needed.  

Preferred: Associate's degree in ophthalmic technology or related field. Previous experience in an ophthalmic setting with familiarity with ophthalmic medical equipment. Proficiency in medical terminology, coding, and billing procedures. Experience in a medical office or healthcare setting. Currently certified as a Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) or Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT) by the Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology preferred.
