Job Highlights
The Acute Care for Elders Unit (ACE) or "Highlands 4 Main" is a 26-bed acute care unit located at UAB Hospital-Highlands that provides care to post-surgical and geriatric patients, as well as those transferred from the emergency department, ICU, or admitted from a physician office. The ACE Unit is the very first of its kind in Alabama and is nationally recognized for addressing the health care needs of geriatric patients. The unit utilizes an interdisciplinary care team trained in geriatrics to provide acutely ill older adults with holistic care of the highest quality. Promoting health, preventing complications, optimizing function, and preserving dignity are all important components of their mission. Job Description
To work with nursing leadership to direct nursing service activities in the assigned care unit for the duration of one shift and/or in the absence of the Nurse Manager. To provide professional nursing care for patients in assigned care unit. To support nursing leadership in the coordination of patient care, personnel management, physician/interdisciplinary collaboration and general administrative duties.
Qualifications
Associate's degree in Nursing with Eighteen (18) months of related experience required. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement. If job is in a free-standing emergency department (FSED) location, one (1) year of experience must be emergency or ICU nursing experience. Currently licensed or eligible to be licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN) by the Alabama Board of Nursing required. Certified in Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association (AHA) is required or should be obtained within 30 days of employment. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification from the AHA is required within six (6) months from date of hire to role. Depending on the unit/department, Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification from the AHA, or other comparable certification as appropriate for the age of patients to be treated, may be required within six (6) months from date of hire to role.Why Work at UAB Medicine
