What are the responsibilities and job description for the PCT - Patient Care Technician - Multiple Shifts position at UAB Medicine?
- Department: 6 Main, Med Surg
- Schedule: Multiple Shifts
- Full Time Evenings: 3:00 PM - 11:00 PM Monday-Friday
- Full Time Nights: 11:00 PM to 7:00 AM Monday-Friday
- Work Location: UAB St Vincent's Birmingham

Perform basic clinical and non-clinical patient care activities under supervision.
- Assist patients with ambulation as necessary. This may include helping them to a recliner in their room, walk to the bathroom or down the hall. Assist dismissed patients in getting safely to their vehicles.
- Assist patients with tending to personal care and activities of daily living.
- Reports findings or changes in physical, mental and emotional conditions to nursing staff. Documents necessary records.
- Keeps patient rooms clean, orderly, and maintains medical equipment.
- Performs certain technical patient care duties in the hospital as directed by the staff nurse such as oxygen setup, foley catheter care, pulse oximetry setup, specimen collection and EKGs.
- Obtain and record vitals, weight, and inputs and outputs.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Licensure / Certification / Registration:
- BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date required. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.
- High School diploma equivalency OR 1 year of applicable cumulative job specific experience required.
