Job Description
The Network Technician’s III role is to manage complex tasks typically relating to network monitoring, operations, installation and/or maintenance for local, off-site, and/or remote locations. To provide guidance for lower level technicians and assist upper level staff in the assurance of maintaining the stability and integrity of all Health System data communication. This includes voice, video, wireless and network services. In addition, the Network Technician will participate with the installation, monitoring, maintenance and support of all network hardware, software, and communication links. The person will also diagnose, resolve, and document hardware and software first level network problems in a timely and accurate fashion.
Primary Responsibilities
High School diploma or GED and four (4) years of related experience required. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.

Job Description

In addition, the Network Technician will participate with the installation, monitoring, maintenance and support of all network hardware, software, and communication links. The person will also diagnose, resolve, and document hardware and software first level network problems in a timely and accurate fashion.
Primary Responsibilities
- Expanded knowledge of network routing and switching, including routing protocols such as EIGRP, OSPF, BGP, and an in depth understanding of LAN protocol Spanning Tree.
- Expanded experience working on wireless technology, including installation of wireless access points, troubleshooting wireless technology problems, and configuration and documentation in the wireless management system.
- Experience using WAN technology to connect remote clinics through the use of vendors. Manage, monitor, and work with the vendors to obtain the appropriate level of service required for remote clinic locations. Provide the management of trouble tickets for service requests by remote clinics through the corresponding vendor(s).
- Demonstrate knowledge on managing and troubleshooting the OSI model of various data communication layers through the use of software, such as Wireshark.
- Experience managing user access through the use of VLANs, to segment network traffic as a means to improve the efficiency provided by network switches.
- Understands how to configure infrastructure services, including DNS, DHCP, and NTP.
- Has the ability to perform infrastructure maintenance of hardware electronics at the access layer (port access points).
- Can work with Network Architects to implement an IP subnet and maintain an IP address database.
- Collaborate with leadership to assess near- and long-term network capacity needs.

- Make jumps in Communications Equipment Room as assigned.
- Installs, test, certifies and troubleshoots campus and remote-campus network cable infrastructure
- Help manage and maintain existing Network and peripherals.
- Work Add moves and change work queue.
- Help configure and install Cisco equipment.
- Work after hour’s on-call 24x7 support, rotate weekly.
- Other tasks as assigned.
- Ensure network connectivity of all servers, workstations, telephony equipment, and other network appliances.
- Practice network asset management, including maintenance of network component inventory and related documentation and technical specifications information
- Monitor and test network performance and provide network performance statistics and reports.
- Participate in managing all network security solutions.
- Manage and/or provide guidance to junior members of the team.

- Good communication skills.
- Has expanded knowledge of structure wiring, beyond CAT 5 Ethernet, to add fiber optics and mapping of various wiring services that can optimally connect to a hub or datacenter.
- Should be able to communicate clearly with network engineers and end users
- CCNA
- Familiar with network design
- Experience working in a hospital environment
- Experience with basic hand tools
- Basic troubleshooting skills. The ability to think logically and methodically arrive at a sound solution.
- Knowledge of structure wiring. Ability to make CAT 5 Ethernet Data cable
- Ability to accurately follow detailed written or verbal instructions
- Ability to be first response on automation alerts and have knowledge of level 1 call support on Helpdesk problem requests.
- Must be able to perform physical activities, such as, but not limited to , lifting heavy equipment (up to 50 lbs. unassisted), bending, standing, climbing or walking. Must be able to tolerate confined spaces.
