Job Description
Along with the Sr. Director Strategic Sourcing, to lead, direct and manage all non-labor contracts for UAB Medicine Enterprise. To ensure that the contract portfolio is effective, efficient and meets the requirements of the system and it’s optimized between GPO (Group Purchasing Organization), regional committed contracts and local agreements. To work closely with Resource Utilization to ensure that contracts are created in the best overall interests of the enterprise. To create strategic alliances with suppliers to leverage volume and optimize price and spend. To work with UAB Medicine Enterprise affiliates to aggregate and execute upon the purchasing power of the entire enterprise.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Finance, Healthcare Administration or a related field required. Five (5) years’ of progressive experience in sourcing, procurement or supply chain management required. Experience within a complex healthcare or highly regulated environment preferred. Minimum 2 years’ experience in a supervisory or people-management role, including responsibility for performance management and staff development.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Approximately four (4) to ten (10) direct reports.
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities
Experience collaborating with clinical, operational, finance and legal stakeholders in a matrixed organization.
Proficiency with ERP, procurement systems and Microsoft applications.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex information to diverse audiences.
Ability to manage multiple/competing priorities and lead projects in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment.
Leadership skills
Organizational skills
Experience negotiating healthcare supply agreements and knowledge of business and legal contractual language

Key Duties & Responsibilities
- Provides leadership and direction for all non-labor contracting for UAB Medicine Enterprise ensuring that contract portfolio aligns with facility requirements.
- Serves as contract expert ensuring compliance with policies and law.
- Negotiates contracts either directly with vendors or through the efforts of the Strategic Sourcing Specialists or Sr Director-Strategic Sourcing.
- Works closely with physicians, clinicians, department stakeholders, Supply Chain Resource Utilization teams to understand contracting needs and ensure compliance.
- Ensures that contract portfolio is balanced between GPO and local agreements while addressing the needs of UAB Medicine Enterprise.
- Evaluates contract pricing and performance against industry benchmarks.
- Monitors markets to understand changes and product introductions to ensure contact portfolio remains relevant to market conditions.
- Sets and manages a calendar of contracting and sourcing activities
- Manages and establish contract related key performance indicators
- Performs other duties asa assigned
