The Preauthorization Specialist will perform more complex authorization tasks for outpatient visits and procedures, and outpatient diagnostic services, and may serve as a mentor and first-pass escalation for the Preauthorization Associate and Representative roles. Typical duties of the Preauthorization Specialist include good communication skills, both written and verbal, along with good active listening skills. Ability to work well in a team setting and a high level of understanding of the team’s services and goals. The Preauthorization Specialist will be highly encouraged to complete the professional growth and competency program assigned to this position to develop the skills and knowledge to advance to the Preauthorization Lead Specialist position within one year of starting position.
Ambulatory Access Services includes but is not limited to, medical record and encounter creation, registration, appointment scheduling, insurance verification, pre-authorization, communication of patient responsibility, and other pre-arrival activities in both an ambulatory and hospital setting.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Required: High School diploma or equivalent. Minimum of two years’ registration, insurance verification, authorizations or related experience.
Preferred: Customer service or related experience.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

- No disciplinary action (including verbal warning) within the last year.
- Met or above on performance evaluation for the last year.
- Approval of the leadership team
Preferred: Customer service or related experience.
LICENSE, CERTIFICATION AND/OR REGISTRATION:

KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Accurately reviews database listing clinic procedures requiring pre-certifications and/authorizations
- Reviews database or report daily or at assigned intervals
- Investigates details of individual patients insurance
- Performs routine tasks with minimal direction
- Consistently complete assigned duties within designated timeframe
- Monitor emails daily
- Report any and all issues to leadership
- Meets productivity and accuracy standards
- Other duties as assigned
- Will serve as mentor to Preauthorization Representative and Associate
- Serves as back-up to Preauthorization Representative and Associate in their absence
