Job Description

Administer preliminary testing and measurements to assess patients' vision and eye health. Administer topical ophthalmic or oral medications under the direction of the physician. Prepare patients for examinations by explaining procedures and ensuring their comfort. Assist ophthalmologists during examinations, treatments, and surgical procedures. Sets up and cleans up procedures. Acts as scribe while the physician examines patient, entering data into electronic medical records or paper chart. Maintain and operate ophthalmic equipment, ensuring it is clean and functioning properly. Document patients’ medical history and examination results accurately in electronic health records. Provide patient education on eye health, treatment plans, and post-operative care. Schedule appointments and manage patient flow efficiently. Orders supplies. Assists in training of other ophthalmic technicians. Complies with all practice procedures and protocols. Acts in accordance with all State and Federal regulations. Maintains positive attitude consisting of cooperation, self-motivation, courtesy, and professionalism. Potential for travel between hospital and satellite clinics.


High school diploma or GED Must be able to travel between hospital and satellite clinics as needed. Currently certified as a Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) or Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT) by the Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology preferred.
