This is a day shift position with periodic overtime and or shift work requirements, reporting to the Facility Maintenance Supervisor; working independently or in a team, and with minimal supervision, safely and efficiently welding and fabricating Industrial production equipment using advanced cutting, welding and fabrication techniques.

Functions

  • Adhere to all Company and other safetym health , and environmental protocols and regulations.
  • Inspect, measure, or test completed metal workpieces to ensure conformance to specifications using appropriate measuring and testing devices.
  • Determine material requirements and task sequences.
  • Interpret blueprints, work orders, and/or production schedules to determine product or job instructions or specifications.
  • Select, position, align, and bolt jigs, holding fixtures, guides, or stops using measuring instruments and hand tools.
  • Prepare metal surfaces or workpieces, using hand-operated equipment, - such as oxy-acetylene torches, plasma cutters, angle grinders, cutters, drills and sanders.
  • Compute and record information for new work, applying knowledge of metal properties, principles of welding, and shop mathematics as needed.
  • Select torch tips, electrodes, or wire, according to metal types or thicknesses.
  • Design and build fixtures or jigs used to hold parts in place during welding, brazing, or soldering.
  • Verify conformance of workpieces to specifications, using squares, rulers, measuring tapes, micro-meters, contour gauges, and templates.
  • Align and fit parts according to specifications, using jacks, turnbuckles, wedges, drift pins, pry bars, and hammers.
  • Position, align, fit, and weld parts to form complete units or subunits following, blueprints and layout specifications, using jigs, welding torches, and hand tools to complete units.
  • Set up and operate fabricating machines such as brakes, rolls, shears, flame cutters, grinders, and drill presses, to bend, cut, form, punch, drill, or otherwise form and assemble metal components.
  • Remove high spots and cut bevels using portable bevellers, portable grindersm lathes and cutting torches.
  • Mark reference points onto floors or face blocks and transpose them to workpieces, using measuring devices, squares, chalk, and soapstone.
  • Execute pipe fitting and repair including, laying out miters and saddles, fabricate concentric reducers, rolling offsets, live line patching, and using two hole techniques.
  • Locate and mark workpiece bending and cutting lines, allowing for stock thickness, machine and welding shrinkage, and other component specifications.
  • Design and construct templates for piping or structural components and fixtures using hand tools.
  • Inspecting structures, fabrications, assemblies , materials and similar, to identify the cause of errors or other problems or defects.
  • Analyze information and evaluating results to choose the best solution and solve problems.
  • Develop, design, or create new components, ideas, systems, or products, including artistic contributions.
  • Basic drafting, laying out, and specifying technical devices, parts, and equipment — providing documentation, detailed instructions, drawings, or specifications to tell others about how devices, parts, equipment, or structures shoudl function.
  • Additional functions as required by business needs.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 6G welding certification from Company-designated testing authority
    • Proficiency in SMAW, GMAW and GTAW welding processes
  • Level 2 crane and rigging certification
  • Ability to cope various material shapes, operate hydraulic iron worker, roll bender, metal break, shear, hydraulic tubing bender
  • Conceptualize and produce blueprint drawings for fabricating components, fixtures and assemblies
  • Operate pipe beveler, drill press, sander, bench grinder, angle grinder, and other typical machinery used in the fit-up, welding and fabrication of assemblies and components used in the sugar industry
  • Must have positive results from Company-designated tests designed to measure basic skills, job skills, mechanical aptitude and/or other interests, skills and characteristics. (Mechanical Ramsay required)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and experience with database management.
WORKING CONDITIONS

  • 90% of the work environment is conducted in an open outdoor environment with overhead protection, exposed to heights and rapidly changing temperatures including extreme heat, weather conditions, blowing dust and particles, limited visibility, while wearing PPE (i.e.: hard hat, goggles, hair net, ear plugs, and/or full body chemical resistant suites), regularly climbing stairs, kneeling, crawling, bending, stooping, squatting, reaching, and walking on uneven ground containing trip hazards, and lift, carry, push or pull up to 55 lbs. unassisted.
  • 10% of the work environment is conducted in an open environment and requires routinely lifting, loading, pushing and pulling of up to 25 tons with the assistance of manual and electronic pulley’s, regularly standing for long periods of time using heavy equipment and machinery with moving parts or welding equipment with combustible gasses and bright lights, and occasionally accessing enclosed/confined spaces, may be fitted for and wear a respirator.
