The United States Space Command (USSPACECOM) currently located in Colorado Springs, CO, but relocating to Huntsville, AL, is searching for a well-qualified candidate to fill a Computer Scientist position for the Chief Digital and Artificial Intelligence Office. The United States Space Command will be relocated to Huntsville, AL. Exact timeline is unknown, but offers an opportunity to be part of the exciting effort to relocate US Space Command to beautiful Huntsville!
Description of Position: Serves as a computer scientist for the USSPACECOM CDAO. Plans, develops, and establishes program guidance, assessments, requirements, and advisory services for the design, development, production and fielding of new and/or modified capabilities, plans, and exercise support. Responsible for end to end program oversight, test activities, design, development, and production across the organization.
Position Responsibilities:
- Strategic Engineering & Architecture: Guides software development by defining system requirements, creating reusable architectures, and solving complex technical challenges across the enterprise.
- Integrated DevSecOps Operations: Maintains build and deployment pipelines while integrating security protocols and cloud-based products into automated workflows.
- Team Leadership & Project Alignment: Coordinates development teams and prioritizes program requests to ensure mission-aligned delivery and organizational goal achievement.
- Quality & Configuration Management: Oversees manual and automated testing processes alongside configuration management to ensure system integrity and compliance.
- Mission Support & Stakeholder Engagement: Leads application demonstrations for stakeholders and informs acquisition strategies through rigorous system performance analysis.
Desired Skills/Expertise:
- Expertise in cutting-edge technologies and tools, including Apache services (HDFS, Kafka, ZooKeeper, Accumulo), GitLab CI/CD, and Kubernetes.
- Familiarity in enterprise platforms such as Palantir Maven Smart Systems or the Cloudera Data Platform.
- Possess a strong background in agile development and security-related certifications, such as Security , GSEC, or equivalent credentials.
- Hands-on development experience with Java, Python, REST APIs, and automated software testing frameworks.
- Knowledge of UI/UX design principles and best practices for creating user-friendly interfaces.

Basic Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in computer science or bachelor's degree with 30 semester hours in a combination of mathematics, statistics, and computer science. At least 15 of the 30 semester hours must have included any combination of statistics and mathematics that included differential and integral calculus. All academic degrees and course work must be from accredited or pre-accredited institutions.
Evaluation of Education:
Applicants should have sufficient knowledge to understand the fundamental concepts and techniques of computer science. Courses designed to provide an introduction to computer science techniques and methodologies, to problems of system design, and to other specialized fields are acceptable. Courses or experience in teaching elementary, business, or shop mathematics are not acceptable.
Conditions of Employment:
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI Security Clearance
- Position requires drug testing
- Occasional travel away from regular duty location may be required.
- May be required to work irregular duty hours including evenings, weekends, and/or holidays.
**Value of Position (VOP): If your current basic salary is within the band, but above the stated VOP, your basic salary will not be reduced if you are selected for the position.
