Duties

  • You will develop, prepare, and maintain the Shipyard emergency response procedures for technically assessing the emergency radiological conditions to organize groups response.
  • You will ensure procedures are adequate for communicating the environmental effects of an accident to the public.
  • You will identify actual or potential problem areas with project or program execution and initiate corrective action.
  • You will identify and quantify radioisotopes that are to be encountered and identify corresponding instruments and support facilities that they require.
  • You will create, develop plans, and coordinate several full-scale and functional exercises.
  • You will prepare for, respond to, and recover from, major radiological emergencies.
  • You will implement use of the latest technical and regulatory developments and training in radiological emergency planning to keep the emergency response group in the best state of readiness.
  • You will provide or coordinate emergency response and preparedness training, exercises, and assistance.
  • You will collaborate with outside contacts to discuss development and execution of the plan, and to exchange and gain information to resolve problems.
  • You will conduct studies of issues to assist management in improving the effectiveness and efficiency of organizational performance, procedures, and functions.

  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a U.S. Passport.
  • This position may require lifting and carrying of light items such as papers and books which can weigh between 5-10 pounds.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Coordinating a radiological emergency management program by planning emergency drills or trainings and conducting studies to implement process improvements that resolve issues which ensures efficient and effective program operations.

This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.

This position requires the ability to be monitored for occupational ionizing radiation exposure.

Applicant may occasionally be required to drive a government vehicle {not exceeding 1-1/2 tons).

Applicant will be walking, standing, bending, climbing, and maneuvering possible uneven surfaces to perform some job duties.
