Your role in helping us shape the future:
U.S. News empowers everyone to thrive. In this position you will have the opportunity to leverage your strengths and skills to our Finance Department. The Payroll Manager will oversee and supervise the organization’s payroll functions, ensuring pay is processed on time, accurately, and in compliance with government regulations. This role reports to the Payroll and Benefits Director.
Are you up to the Challenge:
- Implements, maintains, and reviews payroll processing systems to ensure timely and accurate processing of payroll transactions including salaries, benefits, garnishments, taxes, and other deductions.
- Process semi-monthly and off-cycle payrolls.
- Work closely with our HR and Finance Departments.
- Resolve in a timely fashion payroll issues found within internal interfaces.
- Update payroll records including exemption changes, benefit elections, savings deductions, and job title and department/division transfers.
- Coordinate wire transfers (as needed), initiate stop payments and correct issues with direct deposits.
- Compile summaries of earnings, taxes, deductions, leave, disability, and nontaxable wages.
- Resolve payroll discrepancies by collecting and analyzing information.
- Maintain payroll policies and procedures; reporting needed changes.
- Maintain employee confidence by protecting payroll information confidential.
- Assist Human Resources with regard to employee compensation and benefits.
- Reconcile pay data from payroll reports to the General Ledger.
- Keep up to date with sick pay laws and overtime policies to ensure payroll compliance.
- Support financial, workers comp and 401K audits.
- Lead the payroll team - Trains new staff in the department. Oversees the daily workflow of the department. Provides constructive and timely performance evaluations.
You should definitely have:
- 3-5 years of related payroll experience.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Human Resources, or related field required.
- Extensive knowledge of the payroll function including preparation, balancing, internal control, and payroll taxes.
- Understanding of medical and other implemented benefits.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong supervisory and leadership skills.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
- Proficient with payroll software. Paychex Experience preferred.
