Aviation Electronics Technicians maintain, diagnose and repair complex aircraft systems. They troubleshoot digital computers, radar and laser electronics as well as test and calibrate automatic flight control systems. Responsibilities include micro-miniature circuit card repairs, installing upgrades to electronic systems and operating diagnostic equipment.

Work Environment

AV technicians work in aviation environments around the world in hangars, on aircraft carriers or outdoors on flight lines. Close collaboration with other professionals is necessary.

Training & Advancement

Sailors complete Class A Technical School covering aviation fundamentals including electrical systems, electronics theory and hands-on training after which they are assigned an AE or AT rating serving at naval air stations or aboard carriers. Advanced technical schools are available for specific mission systems.
