Duties
- Installs, maintains, and repairs automated manufacturing machinery and PLC/computer-controlled mechanical and electrical systems in industrial settings.
- Supports Building Automation Systems by monitoring Air Handlers and Chiller equipment, Compressed and Vacuum air systems, Electrical Power eystems, and coordinating with contracted maintenance vendors as required for troubleshooting and repair.
- Performs root cause failure analysis to address and correct issues causing manufacturing and support equipment failures.
- Dismantles, adjusts, repairs, edits/re-programs PLC functions and assembles mechanical and electrical equipment according to layout plans, blueprints, Computer -aided Design (CAD) drawings, operating or repair manuals, rough sketches, or drawings.
- U.S. Citizenship is Required.
- Selectee must pass all preemployment requirements prior to appointment.
- Selectee must undergo a background investigations for a Secret Clearance.
- Males born after 12/03/59 must be registered for Selective Service.
- Selectee may be required to serve a one year probationary period.
- Selectees must pass a physical examination prior to appointment.
- Strength test may be required.
- Physical - Effort: Must be able to pick up objects weighing up to 75 pounds and occasionally carry objects weighing up to 45 pounds for considerable distances.
- Physical - Effort: Must be able to push, pull, walk, reach, stand, crawl, kneel, bend, and work over and under machinery of all types for sustained periods of time.
- Working Conditions: Will work normally inside areas that are adequately ventilated, heated, and well lit. Floor and deck surfaces are at times, uneven, oily, slippery.
- Working Conditions: The incumbent will be exposed to moving machinery and sharp edges and may suffer cuts, bruises, and abrasions. Personal protective equipment such as gloves, safety shoes, hearing protection, and safety glasses are required.

Applicants must meet the following: Screen-Out Element #1: Ability To Do The Work of the Position Without More than Normal Supervision. Applicants must have experience and training of sufficient scope and quality to independently perform the duties, which include:
- Working independently as an Electronic Industrial Controls Technician.
- Installing, maintaining, and repairing automated manufacturing machinery and PLC/computer-controlled mechanical and electrical systems in industrial settings.
- Disassembling, testing, editing/re-programming PLC functions and inspect electronic components when troubleshooting and repairing systems.
- Using test and diagnostic equipment and software to perform checkouts.
- Dismantlin , repairing, relocating, modifying, maintaining, aligning, and installing press, lamination and bindery equipment.
REQUIRED CERTIFICATION(S): This position requires at least ONE of the following three Certifications:
- Certification or in the process of obtaining; Basic, Intermediate and Advanced qualifications as a PLC Technician.
- International Society of Automation (ISA) certification as a Certified Control Systems Technician.
- The National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies (NICET) certificate in electrical power testing, industrial instrumentation, and other specialties.
Although this position does not have an educational requirement; possession of the following supports knowledge of practical application, and is highly desired, but not required:
- Possesion of anAssociate degree in an ABET-accredited program in one of the following fields: Electro-mechanics/mechatronics, Industrial maintenance, or Process control.
