This opportunity is open to qualified candidates nationwide, with remote work flexibility. Both full-time employees and independent contractors (1099) will be considered.

This role is ideal for experienced, senior-level engineers who are seeking flexible, project-driven work while applying their technical expertise to complex forensic investigations. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in structural engineering, hold an active Professional Engineer (PE) license, and demonstrate the ability to effectively communicate findings through detailed reports, client interactions, and legal proceedings.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct detailed forensic investigations involving structural failures, building damage, construction deficiencies, code-related issues, and causation analyses for residential, commercial, and industrial properties.
  • Perform on-site inspections to evaluate structural conditions, document observations, collect data, take measurements, and preserve evidence relevant to engineering assessments.
  • Analyze structural systems utilizing engineering principles, applicable building codes, industry standards, construction documents, and supporting technical data.
  • Determine the cause, origin, extent, and responsibility of structural failures, property damage, and construction-related defects.
  • Prepare clear, thorough, and defensible engineering reports, including findings, opinions, conclusions, repair recommendations, and supporting documentation.
  • Collaborate with clients, attorneys, insurance carriers, contractors, architects, and other stakeholders throughout the investigation and reporting process.
  • Provide technical consultation and expert opinions during litigation, mediation, arbitration, or insurance claim proceedings.
  • Deliver deposition and expert witness testimony when required and support legal teams with technical analysis and case preparation.
  • Manage multiple assignments while maintaining project schedules, budgets, and high-quality deliverables.
  • Stay current with evolving building codes, engineering standards, forensic methodologies, and industry best practices.
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related engineering discipline required
  • Active Professional Engineer (PE) license required; ability to obtain licensure in additional states as needed.
  • Structural engineering experience, with forensic engineering, failure analysis, property loss investigations, or construction defect investigations preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of structural systems, building materials, construction methods, and applicable building codes and standards.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate complex technical findings to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Proven technical writing skills with experience preparing detailed forensic engineering reports and defensible conclusions.
  • Ability to independently manage multiple projects, prioritize assignments, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience interacting with attorneys, insurance carriers, property owners, contractors, and other project stakeholders preferred.
  • Prior litigation support, deposition, arbitration, mediation, or expert witness testimony experience preferred.
  • Willingness and ability to travel regionally for site inspections and client meetings.

Employment Options:

  • Full-time employee (W-2) or independent contractor (1099)
  • Flexible, project-based workload with opportunities for recurring assignments
  • Remote work with regional travel for inspections and investigations
  • Competitive compensation commensurate with experience and assignment scope
