Social Worker (Program Coordinator) - HCHV

Summary

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) - a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval - award amount (up to $200 -000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application.

Qualifications

Basic Requirements:

• United States Citizenship: Be a citizen of the United States

• Candidates must be proficient in spoken and written English to be appointed as authorized by 38 U.S.C.

• Education
• Have a master's degree in social work from a school of social work fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE)
• Graduates of schools of social work that are in candidacy status do not meet this requirement until the School of Social Work is fully accredited
• A doctoral degree in social work may not be substituted for the master's degree in social work
• Verification of the degree can be made by going to http://www.cswe.org/Accreditation to verify that the social work degree meets the accreditation standards for a masters of social work
• Licensure
• Persons hired or reassigned to social worker positions in the GS-0185 series in VHA must be licensed or certified by a state to independently practice social work at the master's degree level

• Grade Determinations: Social Worker (Program Coordinator) - GS-13 (1) Experience/Education
• One year of experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level
• Experience must demonstrate possession of advanced practice skills and judgment - demonstrating progressively more professional competency
• Candidates may have certification or other post-master's degree training from a nationally recognized professional organization or university that includes a defined curriculum/course of study and internship - or equivalent supervised professional experience
• (2) Licensure/Certification
• Individuals assigned as social worker program coordinator must be licensed or certified at the advanced practice level - and must be able to provide supervision for licensure
• (3) Demonstrated Knowledge - Skills - and Abilities
• In addition to the experience above - the candidate must demonstrate all of the following KSAs
• (a) Skill in coordinating and implementing one or more specialty program(s) - across the facility
• (b) Skill in local policy and practice development - procedures - and/or practice guidelines for the program as prescribed by the program handbook or national directive
• (c) Skill in organizing work - setting priorities - meeting multiple deadlines - and evaluating assigned program area(s)
• (d) Ability to collaborate with internal and external partners to further program goals and enhance patient centered care
• (e) Ability to provide the full range of supervisory duties including assignment of work to be performed

• Physical Requirements: Light lifting (under 15 lbs.) - moderate carrying (15-44 lbs.) - use of fingers - walking - standing - near vision correctable at 13"" to 16"" to Jaeger 1 to 4 - far vision correctable in one eye to 20/20 to and to 20/40 in the other - both eyes required - hearing (aid may be permitted) - and emotional/mental stability

Duties

• Total Rewards of a Allied Health Professional Duties include - but are not limited to: Responsible for assuring that services are provided to Veterans eligible for the Health Care for Homeless Veteran (HCHV) Program(s)
• This includes Veterans meeting VA eligibility requirements and being identified as being homeless
• Responsible for assuring that quality assurance related to these programs are within program parameters
• Responsible for chairing the HCHV Advisory Committee
• Ability to identify active participants in the program to enable tracking of service activities - utilization of services and other functions
• Supervises an organizational unit
• Responsible for the direct supervision of staff assigned to this program
• Supervises employees to accomplish the work of the organization unit - exercising supervisory authority involving work assignment and all personnel functions relative to staff supervised
• Provides administrative - technical - and educational consultation necessary for accomplishing the work of the program - including education to health care system staff across the health care system and outreach efforts to community programs
• Ability to resolve informal complaints and grievances
• Reviews and approves or disapproves leave requests
• Assures that subordinates are trained and fully comply with the provisions of the safety regulations
• Participates with the HCHV Staff in the development - evaluation - and communication of standards - policies and procedures to health care system Social Workers and other providers who serve as primary referral sources for the program
• Performs a wide range of services and provides assistance to State - local - and private agencies
• Uses sound judgment in the interpretation of trends and patterns
