Summary

The incumbent serves as the Secretary to assigned member of the Executive Leadership Team (ELT) at the VA Sierra Nevada Health Care System - Reno - Nevada. The incumbent assists the ELT member and the aligned Health System Specialist (HSS).

Qualifications

To qualify for this position - applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement - 07/20/2026. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-8 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-7. The grade may have been in any occupation - but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year - it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade - as required by the announcement. In this instance - you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment. You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below: Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-7 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have . OR - Combination: Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. You must have an combination of specialized experience and education beyond. Physical requirements: The work is normally sedentary - but includes some walking - standing - bending - and carrying of light items such as papers and books. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.

Duties

  • Major duties include - but are not limited to the following: Screens calls and visitors to the Executive Leadership Office Provides assistance and refers others to the appropriate staff member within or outside of the office Independently determines which inquiries require the personal attention of which specific Executive Leader Personally handles many requests for information and resolves or assists in resolving complaints made by patients and/or their families
  • The incumbent has full control of Executive Leadership calendars with complete authority for notifying appropriate staff officials of needed information and recommendations necessary for the meetings
  • Keeps Executive Leadership apprised of all meetings - providing a daily personal calendar to each Executive Leader and requisite meeting materials
  • Accumulates and organizes information for Executive Leadership required for evaluating programs and their requirements - for formulating and revising regulations and procedures - and in making budget and other presentations for VASNHCS both internally and externally
  • Develops spreadsheets - graphs - and computer presentations to assist supervisors in displaying information
  • The incumbent also designs and organizes filing systems as appropriate - ensuring the necessary risk and privacy policies are followed - as well as retirement of files
  • Work Schedule: Full-Time - Varies Telework: This position may be authorized for telework
