Duties
- Duties include but are not limited to: Provides medical care with the cognizance of the Chief - Primary Care - by collecting data required for diagnosis and performing procedures and services as approved by the Credentials Review Committee
- Obtains and evaluates medical histories - performs physical examinations - performs therapeutic and diagnostic procedures - and orders laboratory studies - radiographs - electrocardiograms - and other special examinations
- Analyzes and interprets data - formulates problem lists - and establishes plans for solution of clinical problems
- Counsels patients on medical problems - use of medications - and expected effects of treatment
- Makes entries in patient's permanent medical records via the current EHR
- Coordinates patient care with the specialties within the department
- Initiates - communicates and coordinates care with VISN 20 tertiary care specialists
- Initiates Fee Basis consultation requests to other health professionals to provide more comprehensive patient management as appropriate
- Accomplishes narrative summaries and other documentation The incumbent will be directly involved clinically as a Physician Assistant coordinating all aspects of providing the right medical care to the right patient most efficiently and effectively
- Performs and dictates/types initial histories and physical examinations as well as progress notes on all procedures performed for which he or she is responsible
- Dictating/typing discharge and transfer summaries
- Provides comprehensive physical assessment
- Evaluates - diagnoses - and treats new and existing patients' conditions
- Orders appropriate tests
- Types/Dictates medical notes in patients' charts using the current EHR - indicating patient status - treatment - & procedures
- Conducts follow-up patient care
- Provides health education to patients and families
- Supervises and/or coordinates the activities of patient care and support staff within the Primary Care clinics
- Actively participates in community health education

- Work Schedule: Monday-Friday - 8:00am-4:30pm Compressed/Flexible: Available EDRP Authorized: This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) - a student loan payment reimbursement program
- You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment
- Program Approval - award amount (up to $200 -000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application
