Physician Assistant - Primary Care

Summary

This position is eligible for Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval - award amount (up to $200 -000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants ineligible to apply.

Duties

• Major duties for the Physician Assistant - Primary Care include - but are not limited to: Provide primary care services to a panel of patients as part of an interprofessional primary care team
• Perform initial histories and physical examinations on outpatients
• Provide ongoing outpatient care for assigned patients
• Screen outpatients to determine the need for further care
• Prescribe medications within the defined scope of practice
• Order diagnostic studies such as laboratory tests - x-rays - and electrocardiograms
• Review the need for - and order - health promotion and disease prevention measures
• Initiate - respond to and expedite request for consultations - special tests - and studies
• Provide education and counseling of patients and families in preventive care - medical conditions - and use of prescribed treatments and drugs
• Provide appropriate services to sick call patients
• Ensure patient care continues seamlessly during primary care provider's absence

• Work Schedule: Monday - Friday - 8:00am - 4:30pm - subject to change based on the needs of the facility
