Must follow prescribed safety procedures using appropriate lifting methods and body mechanics for heavy lifting or moving of heavy objects. Must be able to drive for a minimum of a four-hour period and stay mentally alert. If driver realizes they are not mentally alert - they must use good judgment in pulling over at the first safe area - road-checking vehicle with walk-around inspection - and continue driving as soon as possible. Incumbent must pass a VA Physical and adhere to all VA and DOT drug and alcohol testing and guidelines.

Duties
- Major duties and responsibilities include: Operates vehicles such as shuttle carts/golf carts - vans - pickup trucks - panel trucks - flatbed trucks - carryalls - sedans - crew cab pickup trucks - and sports utility vehicles which typically have an approximate gross vehicle weight of up to 4500 kilograms (10 -000 pounds)
- Handles cargo loading and unloading from vehicles to provide timely delivery of supplies and equipment directly to users or to storage areas and completes documentation to record activities
- Secures cargo to prevent damage to contents during transport and ensures that the vehicle is not loaded beyond the maximum capacity
- Loads and unloads by hand but may use a handcart to transport items
- Protects materials - supplies and equipment from the elements
- Vehicle transport includes medical and office supplies - equipment - and mail over Federal - State and Country roads in all traffic conditions - on specific trip assignments or regularly established schedules
- Performs routine safety and maintenance checks on the vehicle to include - but not limited to - the addition of fuels or lubricants and the checking of tire pressure
- Maintains cleanliness and professional appearance of both the in and outside of the vehicle
- Completes all maintenance service records to document activities
- Performs other related duties as assigned
