Summary

The Workplace Violence Program Coordinator directs the administrative and clinical aspects of the Workplace Violence Prevention Program (WVPP) across the Jonathan M. Wainwright VA Medical Center (JMWVA) areas of operation. The WVPP Coordinator is responsible for the implementation of four VHA initiatives: Prevention and Management of Disruptive Behavior (PMDB) - Employee Threat Assessment Team (ETAT) - Disruptive Behavior Committee (DBC) - Disruptive Behavior Reporting System (DBRS).

Basic Requirements

  • United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy
  • Education: Hold a master's or doctoral degree in: Clinical Mental Health Counseling
  • Clinical Rehabilitation Counseling
  • Clinical Mental Health Counseling and Clinical Rehabilitation Counseling
  • or a related field - from a program accredited by the Council on Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP)
  • Examples of related mental health counseling fields include - but are not limited to Addiction Counseling
  • Community Counseling
  • Gerontology Counseling
  • Marital - Couple - and Family Counseling
  • CACREP defines the date when graduates are considered to have graduated from a CACREP accredited program

  • NOTE: Traditional Rehabilitation counseling programs that are accredited by CACREP do not meet the LPMHC qualification standards as Traditional Rehabilitation counseling differs from Clinical Rehabilitation counseling
  • Licensure: Persons hired or reassigned to LPMHC positions in the GS-0183 series in VHA must hold a full - current - and unrestricted license to independently practice as a Licensed Professional Mental Health Counselor - which includes diagnosis and treatment
  • NOTE: It is VHA policy that a LPMHC who does not yet have a license that allows independent practice must be supervised by a licensed independent practitioner of the same discipline who is a VA staff member and who has access to the electronic health record
  • Loss of Licensure: Once licensed - LPMHCs must maintain a full - valid - and unrestricted license to independently practice mental health counseling - which includes diagnosis and treatment
  • Loss of licensure will result in removal from the GS-0183 LPMHC occupation and may result in termination of employment
  • English Language Proficiency: LPMHCs must be proficient in spoken and written English in accordance with VA Handbook 5005 - Part II - chapter 3 - section A - paragraph 3.j
  • Grade Determinations: GS-12 - Licensed Professional Mental Health Counselor (Program Coordinator) Experience - Education - and Licensure: In addition to the basic requirements - candidates must have at least one year of progressively complex experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level
  • Experience must have been in a major specialty treatment program area such as - but not limited to - Post- Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) - mental health intensive case management (MHICM) - or other areas of equivalent scope and complexity
  • Experience must demonstrate possession of advanced practice skills and judgment - demonstrating progressively more professional competency
  • Demonstrated Knowledge - Skills - and Abilities: In addition to meeting the KSAs for the GS-11 grade level - the candidate must demonstrate all of the KSAs below: In depth knowledge of the program coordinated - and demonstrated knowledge and ability to write policies procedures and or practice guidelines for the program
  • Ability to make key decisions in the hiring and identification of top candidates
  • Ability to provide leadership in facilitating the process of coordinating program consults - assessments - admissions - care assignments and discharges
  • Ability to provide subject matter consultation to other colleagues and trainees within the field of counseling working on an interdisciplinary team
  • Assignments: LPMHC Program Coordinators are administratively responsible for a clinical program and provide treatment to patients in a major specialty
  • They manage the daily operations of the program - develop policies and procedures - and prepare reports and statistics for facility - VISN - and national use
  • They may supervise unlicensed graduate LPMHCs and may administratively manage any employees assigned to their program

Duties

  • The Workplace Violence Program Coordinator directs the administrative and clinical aspects of the Workplace Violence Prevention Program (WVPP) across the Jonathan M
  • Wainwright VA Medical Center (JMWVA) areas of operation
  • Functions or Scope of Assigned Duties: Management of the Work Place Violence Prevention Program for JMWVA Establish continuity between Prevention and Management of Disruptive Behavior (PMDB) and Disruptive Behavior Committee
  • Obtains and maintains PMDB Certified Trainer Status
  • Consult with the PMDB training team to coordinate training of JMWVA staff
  • Assist with identification and selection of PMDB facility trainers qualified to become master trainers via Train The Trainer (TTT) courses
  • Participation in national PMDB conference calls and trainings pertinent to the coordination of the program as time allows
  • Assigns prevention and management of disruptive behavior (PMDB) training levels to employees based upon the WBRA results for position and work place
  • Responsible for completing the Workplace Behavioral Risk Assessment (WBRA) process and reporting of national reporting system once a year
  • Collect the data from disruptive behavior reports for the annual workplace Behavioral Risk Assessment
  • Responsible for coordinating a team of professionals in accordance with VHA 2012 - 026 to conduct workplace behavioral risk assessments (WBRA) and quarterly meetings
  • Responsibility for overseeing the day to day business of the committee
  • Providing or coordinating the follow-up of all decisions of business items at the monthly Committee meeting
  • In conjunction with the BH Service Chief responsible for the implementation - education - training and updates for local policy on Management of Disruptive Behavior
  • Provide expert consultation with JMWVA treatment providers regarding management of disruptive patients
  • Responsible for the education - training - implementation of local and national policies pertaining to disruptive behavior
  • Serves as Team Lead for an interdisciplinary team to assess - triage and develop a plan for Veterans whose complexity increases their risk
  • Clinical/Administrative Responsibilities Responsible for the implementation and coordination of the Disruptive Behavior Reporting System (DBRS) Collaborate with other departments to manage the use of data related to these programs regarding day to day functioning - effectiveness - and program evaluation
  • Responsible for roll out of program and working with the VISN leadership as a point of contact for technical support
  • Responsible for all VISN and Central Office requests for information about disruptive behavior training or any data about disruptive behavior incidents
  • Responsible for set up and maintenance of live database
  • Responsible to respond to all reports made in the facility regarding either staff or patient
  • Interview all persons involved as well as possible witnesses to incident
  • Performs a chart tracer on each patient event - use the violence rating system to determine potential risk of predatory and affective violence
  • Assess the environment of care for safety if there has been a breech
  • Provide support for persons involved in the event the report including offering of Employee Assistance Program - Equal Employment Office - education or other intervention as needed
  • Complete response and follow up with case as needed on the database
  • Point of contact for the Disruptive Behavior Reporting System
  • Provides clinical supervision and instruction for Social Workers accruing hours toward licensure when indicated
