Summary

Receives soiled linen per client - weight - records - tags - and arranges in order of client. Loads each client's soiled linen onto trailer for transport to contracted laundry for processing. Receives clean linen per client - weighs - records - tags - and arranges in order of client. Loads each client's clean linen onto truck for transport to outside clients and sorts clean linen - folds clean linen - and stores on flow rack clean linen for use on VA Medical Center grounds.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position - applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement. EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required - but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge - skills - and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards. SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element - which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. The potential eligibles are then rated against the remainder of the Job Elements: Dexterity and Safety Materials Operation of Equipment/Machinery Technical Practices (Electrical Electronic) Without more than normal supervision Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience - including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g. - Peace Corps - AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g. - professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies - knowledge - and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience - including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.

Duties

  • Cross-trained in all techniques and procedures used within the TCPF in the event of staffing shortages or unforeseen workload and works under strict time frames and deadlines due to patient workload
  • Display sound judgement in monitoring the work flow for textile processing tasks through communication with the linen clerk - laundry work leaders and laundry supervisors - to determine and communicate linen needs to the washman in a timely manner
  • Responsible for correct operations of the dryers - small washer - pneumatic lift system - garment finisher and timely delivery of finished textiles when required
  • Serves as an operator - Laundry Worker - Sewing Machine Operator - Linen Clerks and truck Driver
  • Selects the correct linen to be dried to ensure linen flow on the production floor is continuous
  • Understands various chemical agents used by the TCPF to ensure they are properly used to prevent damage to linens - uniforms and any other textiles processed
  • Understands Infection Control measures are to be maintained between soiled side operations and clean textiles - and uses proper aseptic techniques including proper hand hygiene
  • Responds to changing linen requirements - as necessary
  • Inspectors and packages for all Operating and Sterile Procedure linens
  • Operates the lift and rail system to correctly direct the proper linen pulled from washer/ extractors to appropriate rail storage - to be dried or ironed
  • Safeguards textile equipment - materials and supplies for his/her assigned area
  • Works in a safe manner - adhering to established safety policies and reporting any hazardous or potential hazardous conditions to management
  • Ensures continuous and safe operations
  • incumbent will follow all infection control - OSHA requirements and Joint commission guidelines when staging washed carts - loading and unloading washer/ extractors - small washers - dryers - and garment finisher
  • Basic knowledge of the operating principles of commercial washing - and knowledge to select the correct wash formula from the provided chart for the selected wash load - and basic knowledge of the cart wash operation system - water and air systems to identify proper operations and procedures - to shut down the equipment if a malfunction occurs
  • Assists with the test piece program by delivering the test piece to the washman after each load processed
  • Operates side equipment - including garment finisher - small washer - large and small dryers - spreader/feeder/ironer/folder - stacker conveyor - small and large piece folders - and how to operate the light table
  • Work Schedule: Full-Time - Monday through Friday 9:00AM - 5:30PM
  • Tour of Duty subject to change based upon facility needs

  • The incumbent must be able to lift linen bags weighing 1-75 lbs
  • The incumbent must be able to stand - bend - crouch - push - pull - and lift heavy items during loading and un loading of trucks.

Salary : $19 - $22
