This position is located within the Environmental Management Services Division of a VA Medical Center. This position is under the direct supervision of the Housekeeping Supervisor or designee. Care is required to avoid serious injuries (i.e. - broken bones) when working on ladders - or when using 30-100-pound power equipment or handling hazardous materials. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Duties
- Major Duties and Responsibilities: Passing on to other workers the instructions received from supervisors and getting work started - e.g. - by assignment the immediate tasks to be performed by individual members of the group led
- Works along with other workers and sets the pace of work
- Demonstrates proper work methods
- Obtains needed information or decisions from supervisors on problems that come up during the work assignment
- Maintains a current knowledge - answering questions of other workers on procedures - policies - written instructions and other directives
- Checks work while in progress and when finished to see whether the supervisor's instructions on work sequence - procedures - methods - and deadlines are being met
- Assures that safety and housekeeping rules are followed
- Reports to supervisors on status of progress of work and causes of work delays
- Answering questions of supervisors on overall work operations and problems
- Technical Duties: Sweeping - dusting - mopping - scrubbing - stripping - refinishing - buffing - window and all washing and other related cleaning duties
- Selecting and preparing the proper cleaning solutions for the various environmental surfaces
- Operating all types of cord/line and battery powered cleaning equipment - self propelled scrubbing machines - burnishers - stripping equipment - polishers - vacuums - wet vacuum and spill and \"flood\" pick up equipment and other electrical equipment
- Handling soiled linen
- Collecting and disposing of infectious red-bag wasted - trash and garbage
- Replenishing soap - towel - tissue dispensers and deodorizing containers
- Hanging curtains or draperies - terminal cleaning of bed units
- Making beds - sanitizing furniture and fixtures - and performing other related duties as assigned to keep work areas clean - orderly and attractive
