Summary

This Engineering Equipment Operator position is located in the Facility Management department at the VA Boston Healthcare System. One position will be located at the Brockton Campus and one at the West Roxbury Campus. This position is a full-time at 40 hours per week.

Qualifications

Physical Requirements: This position requires moderate to heavy physical effort with reaching - bending - turning and moving hands - arms - feet and legs to operate different controls on various types of equipment. Work requires frequent bending stooping - kneeling - walking and exposure to constant vibrations and jolting caused by movement of equipment over uneven and rough terrain and running of other power tools. Position may require lifting and moving weight exceeding 50 pounds with or without assistance.

Duties

• The Engineering Equipment Operator operates gasoline- and diesel-powered engineering and construction equipment with wheeled traction
• This includes the operation of all facility owned or rental equipment to perform such functions as cutting - moving - digging - grading - and rolling earth - sand - stone - snow - and other materials
• Equipment may include: wheel skid loader with attachments - front end loaders - forklifts - backhoes - and trench diggers - mowing - and trimmers
• You will be responsible for loading dump trucks with materials such as salt - sand - loam and mulch
• Incumbent will prepare soil for plants - seeds - trim - prune - fertilize plants and shrubs
• Performs other duties as assigned
• You will be required to obtain a Massachusetts Hoist Operators License once hired in order to operate commercial sized dump truck with hydraulic attachments
• Responsible for regular interpretation of work requests - assignments and priorities

• When setting pay - a higher step rate of the appropriate grade may be determined after consideration of higher or unique qualifications or special needs of the VA (Above Minimum Rate of the Grade)
