Duties

- Scope of Duties: - The Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery dental officer shall be proficient in all aspects of oral & maxillofacial surgery and limited general dentistry procedures
- Specifically - the provider should possess the expertise and competency to perform the following: - Make oral and radiographic examinations of the oral cavity and its adjacent tissue and structures
- - Diagnose pathological or irregular oral conditions
- - Orders and/or interprets diagnostic measures - such as radiographic images - other imaging - models - etc
- - Administer local anesthesia
- - Complete dento-alveolar surgery - including simple - surgical - and complex exodontia - pre-prosthetic surgery - bone grafting - sinus and ridge augmentation - vestibuloplasty and implant placement procedures - Accomplish and arrange for patient consultation - work-up - admission - medical/dental specialty and inter-disciplinary care - completion of surgical procedures - and provide for post-operative and follow-up care of patients presenting with illnesses - injuries - and disorders of both the functional and aesthetic aspects of the hard and soft tissues of the oral & maxillofacial regions
- - Complete oral & maxillofacial surgical procedures including but not limited to treatment of facial traumatic injuries/facial fractures - treatment of pathological conditions such as benign cysts/tumors - orthognathic surgery - biopsy procedures - and TMJ surgery
- - Provides clinical supervision - treatment planning - and educational activities related to the Dental Service AEGD-1 Residency Program and to dental staff assigned to their clinic location as needed
- - Adheres to safety - health - and infection control standards - and demonstrates knowledge in the use and reprocessing of Reusable Medical Equipment (RME)
- - Responsible for clinic administration in compliance with VHA - Medical Center and Dental Service Directives - Policies and Procedures - The scope of practice that a specific provider may perform is defined through the medical center credentialing and privileging process

Salary : $125,000 - $400,000
