Air Conditioning Equipment Mechanic

Summary

This position serves primarily as a Heating - Ventilation - and Air Conditioning (HV AC) Mechanic. Performs overhaul - installation - maintenance - modification - and repair of various types of air conditioning and refrigeration equipment which is characterized by moderate complexity of design - construction - and function. Provides basic electrical or plumbing repairs - to other that HV AC equipment - when required and must have rudimentary knowledge in these fields.

EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required - but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge - skills - and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards. SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element - which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Duties

• Primary Duties Include but are not limited to: Provides comprehensive technical support for all air conditioning and refrigeration equipment
• Discusses maintenance problems with technical personnel
• Exercises skill in interpreting electronic - electrical - and mechanical drawings - specifications - and schematics of custom systems
• Provides support for the operating - maintaining - repairing and adjusting HVAC controls systems
• Completes work orders and Preventive Maintenance using proper maintenance practices and following manufacturer's recommendations
• Maintains complex electronic systems and equipment which are vital to the hospital's ability to provide health care
• Takes proper corrective action to restore the device to its fully operational level
• Responsible for updating the equipment spare part inventory program when withdrawing from spare part inventory cache to make repairs
• Completes work orders and Preventive Maintenance using proper maintenance practices and following manufacturer's recommendations in order to extend the life of equipment
• Provides technical support of these systems includes the preventive maintenance - installation - evaluation - troubleshoots - repair - calibration - testing - and modification etc
• Employs improvising troubleshooting practices when needed
• Performs all work using proper safety practices and Personal Protective Equipment
• Selects the proper tools Must know the principles and theories of air conditioning and refrigeration - temperature measurement - properties of refrigerants
• Performs basic electrical and plumbing repairs
• Must be skilled in the interpretation and use of engineering drawings - schematics - logic diagrams and mechanical drawings

• He/she shall be required to follow proper procedures and wear proper protective equipment to minimize the risks associated with the work being done
