The United States Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of North Carolina has three positions available for an Assistant United States Attorney (AUSA) in our Criminal Division. The office is very active, serving approximately 3 million people and covering 24 counties in the central part of the state. Employment with this office offers a unique and challenging experience for highly motivated attorneys, including opportunities to work their own caseload, manage investigations, and represent the United States of America in federal District Court and the Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit. Our district is headquartered in downtown Greensboro with a staffed branch office in Winston-Salem.
Job Description
Assistant U.S Attorneys prosecute a wide variety of federal crime, including breaches of national security, child exploitation, human trafficking, fraud, narcotics trafficking, firearm offenses, transnational organized crime, and violent crime. The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of North Carolina is currently seeking to hire three Assistant United States Attorneys to represent the United States in the investigation and prosecution of a wide range of criminal cases, specifically those involving violent crime, illegal immigration, and drug trafficking, targeting especially crimes committed by cartels and transnational criminal organizations.
Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.
Qualifications
Required qualifications: Applicants must have a J.D. degree, be an active member in good standing with the bar (any U.S. jurisdiction) and have at least three years of post-J.D. legal or other relevant experience.
United States citizenship is required.
Applicates will be required to complete a federal background investigation to include credit and drug testing.
Preferred qualifications: Applicants must demonstrate superior analytical ability; have strong research, writing, and courtroom skills; independently exercise fair and sound judgment; follow all Department of Justice and United States Attorney’s Office policies; exhibit the ability to work in a supportive and professional manner with other attorneys, support staff, and law enforcement agencies; interact professionally and effectively with opposing counsel; handle matters in court persuasively and justly on behalf of the United States of America; commitment to public service and be devoted to excellence.
