The Western District of Texas covers 93,000 square miles and approximately 660 miles of U.S. border with Mexico, putting the District on the front lines of the fight against illegal immigration and transnational organized crime.

Job Description

Assistant United States Attorneys (AUSAs) in the Criminal Division prosecute a wide variety of federal crimes. The individual chosen to be an AUSA in our office will investigate and prosecute a wide variety of cases with a particular focus on those cases involving illegal immigration, drug trafficking, human trafficking, firearms trafficking, human smuggling, drugs, and transnational organized crime, including cartels designated as Foreign Terrorist Organizations (FTOs) and Specially Designated Global Terrorists (SDGTs) pursuant to Executive Order 14157. The qualified applicant would be expected to (a) assist federal law enforcement agents in structuring and implementing criminal investigative plans and strategies; and (b) litigate cases of varying degrees of complexity from start to finish.

Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

Applicants must possess a J.D. Degree, be an active member of the bar (any U.S. jurisdiction), and have at least 1 year post-J.D. legal or other relevant experience.

United States citizenship is required.

Hiring preferences include strong academics, outstanding organizational skills, superior legal writing and research ability, demonstrated analytical ability, good judgment and courtroom skills, and a commitment to professionalism, ethics, civility, and public service.

Salary

Assistant United States Attorney's pay is administratively determined based, in part, on the number of years of professional attorney experience. The range of basic pay is $76,748 to $197,100 which includes 17.06% locality.
