Defense Finance and Accounting Services (DFAS) mission is to lead the DoD in finance and accounting by ensuring the delivery of efficient, exceptional quality pay and financial information.

Telework availability is limited and will only be provided on a rare case-by-case basis during situations where Agency Leadership has determined that telework serves a compelling Department of Defense (DoD) need.Qualifications:Human Resources will determine your qualifications for each entry grade level based on your interest and the additional following criteria. This announcement will be used to fill positions with an entry grade of GS-05 or GS-06.

Applicants MUST have related financial experience AND/OR a related financial degree (examples include: Finance, Accounting, Management, Actuarial Science, or related), in addition to meeting Office of Personnel Management (OPM) minimum qualification requirements.

One year of specialized experience equivalent in level of difficulty and responsibility to that of the next lower grade within the federal service, which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position, is required.

To Be Hired At The GS-05 Entry Grade Level, Applicants Must Minimally Have:
  • One year of specialized experience equivalent in level of difficulty and responsibility to that of the next lower grade GS-04 within the federal service, which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position, is required.
Specialized Experience at the GS-05 Is Defined As:
  • Performing financial duties that support the processing of financial/accounting transactions using standardized procedures to include reviewing documents for accuracy or inputting financial/accounting information into an automated system or correcting invalid/incorrect transactions.


To Be Hired At The GS-06 Entry Grade Level, Applicants Must Minimally Have:
  • One year of specialized experience equivalent in level of difficulty and responsibility to that of the next lower grade GS-05 within the federal service, which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position, is required.
Specialized Experience at the GS-06 Is Defined As:
  • Working with accounting systems, policies, and procedures of the examination, verification and maintenance of accounts and accounting data; AND/OR validating, monitoring, and maintaining accounting transactions and accounting records; AND/OR reconciling subsidiary ledgers to general ledgers for accounts.

This announcement will be used to fill positions with an entry grade of GS-05, GS-05 with a target grade of GS-06.
  • Minimum Salary: Grade GS-05 is $40,736.00, Maximum is $52,957.00
  • Minimum Salary: Grade GS-06 is $45,409.00, Maximum is $59,031.00

Volunteer Experience:
  • Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

This position requires you to obtain and maintain a Level 1 Certification under the DoD Financial Management (FM) Certification Program as a condition of employment. If you are selected, you will have to obtain this certification within two (2) years of your entry on duty in the position unless you are already in a position that requires a Level 1 Certification in which case you must complete the certification within the original 2-year period. Failure to become certified within the required time-frame may be grounds for removal from the position and/or from Federal service. SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR GS-05:
  • Four years of successfully completed education above the high school level in any field for which high school graduation, or the equivalent, is a prerequisite may be substituted to meet the specialized experience required. Equivalent combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and experience may be used to meet total experience requirements.
SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR GS-06:
  • Six months of graduate education may be substituted to meet the specialized experience required when it is directly related to the work of the position being filled. Equivalent combinations of successfully completed graduate level education and experience may be used to meet total experience requirements when the education is directly related to the position being filled.

Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be used to substitute for the specialized experience requirement.
