Salary Range:  CL 30-01 to CL 30-61, $112,464-$182,814 depending on qualifications

Position Overview: 
The United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit invites applications for a permanent Staff Attorney (Assistant Supervisor) in the Merits Unit of the Staff Attorney’s Office. The Merits Unit recommends dispositions on a broad spectrum of cases ranging from cases involving pro se litigants to fully counseled, orally argued cases raising complex or novel legal questions. Merits Unit staff law clerks work directly with all the judges of the court, assisting them with research and the disposition of appeals in much the same way as the judges’ law clerks. The Staff Attorney will assist in the supervision of the staff law clerks and may also handle his or her own docket of cases.Qualifications:
The successful applicant will be part of a highly collegial and hard-working team dedicated to meeting the exacting standards of legal excellence required for the work of the court. Applicants must have excellent academic credentials and superior analytical, research, writing, editing, organizational, and time-management skills. Experience as a law clerk or staff attorney in the Federal Judiciary or a State supreme court is highly desirable. Practice experience in Federal courts, particularly in the areas of criminal law, civil-rights law, prisoner litigation, or employment discrimination, is also highly desirable. Applicants must have a Juris Doctor degree from an ABA-approved law school, three or more years of legal practice experience, and bar membership. Benefits:
