Duties
This position is located in the U.S. Capitol Police, Office of the Assistant Chief of Police for Uniformed Operations, Operational Services Bureau, Special Operations Division, Off-Site Delivery Center. The incumbent is responsible for assisting freight inspectors in the security screening of items scheduled for delivery to the Capitol Complex by offloading packages, boxes, containers, etc., from delivery vehicles/trailers.
Performs a wide variety of interrelated and non-standard duties using well-defined practices. Assists Vehicle and Materials Screeners in the security screening of items scheduled for delivery to the Capitol Complex by off-loading packages, boxes, containers, etc., from delivery vehicles/ trailers. Reloads inspected and approved items aboard delivery vehicles.
Performs general maintenance and cleaning assignments of the facility such as moving equipment and other items, sweeping bays, cleaning x-ray belts, machines and other security equipment. Operates electric or gasoline powered forklift trucks to load and unload cargo from vehicles. The forklift trucks have automatic or manual transmissions with up to four forward speeds and controls to lift and lower loads in the confined space of trucks.
Observes for extraordinary conditions or circumstances that indicate criminal activity, and reports such activities, as appropriate, for action. Detects and reports violations of the law as appropriate. Cooperates with and assists members of the Department as well as members of other law enforcement agencies.

- You must be a U.S. Citizen. Successful completion of a Background Investigation is required. Must complete a one-year probationary period. Must have Direct Deposit. Shift work may be required for this position. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
Qualifications
Your experience must demonstrate that you have performed basic laborer work, which required you to screen, load and unload boxes and other items from trucks and/or trailers; use electric or gasoline powered forklift trucks; perform general maintenance and cleaning assignments; and/ or, perform other equivalent laborer duties and responsibilities. Specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality or your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence that demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions on your resume.

Physical Effort:
This position requires the incumbent to lift weights up to 50 pounds on a recurring basis. Items weighing greater than 50 pounds will be lifted with assistance. Most of the work involves twisting, climbing, lifting, bending, crouching, kneeling, leaning, stretching, bouncing, sitting, standing, stooping and carrying.
Working Conditions:
Works outside in all kinds of weather, in addition, when operating vehicles, drives in all types of weather and traffic and is exposed to the possibility of accidents. Work is performed both indoors and outdoors in all types of weather. Incumbents is exposed to heat, cold, wind, dirt, dust, mud, and water in the performance of duties or this position.
